BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Although it's the offseason on the college basketball circuit, two prominent former BGSU men's basketball players – Richaun Holmes (2012-15) and Justin Turner (2016-21) – are making headway in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
On the first night of NBA free agency, Holmes – a coveted big man on the market – reportedly agreed to a four-year contract to stay with the Sacramento Kings. Reporters around the NBA expect Holmes' deal to be one of the largest across the entire league at his position. The former Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year experienced a breakout season in 2020-21, as he averaged career highs in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg).
Turner, BGSU's all-time leading scorer, is set to begin his professional journey tonight with the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are taking on the Utah Jazz at 9 p.m. ET on NBA TV. Turner, a three-time First Team All-MAC performer during his historic career in the Orange and Brown, will wear No. 26. San Antonio is scheduled to play three games in the Salt Lake Summer League before playing four games the following week in the Las Vegas Summer League. Confirming that Richaun Holmes is signing a 4-year, $55 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. Most lucrative deal for a true free agent center on the market.
