Men's Hoops To Host Akron Thursday Night At The Stroh Center

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will return to the Stroh Center for the second of three games this week, hosting Akron on Thursday (Jan. 20). The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off and will mark the seventh MAC game of the season for BGSU. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 29 but had to be rescheduled due to COVID protocols within the Akron program. The game between the Falcons and Zips will be available to stream on ESPN3. Fans can also tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. Live stats will be provided by bgsufalcons.com with live updates available on Twitter (@BGSUMHoops).Â
The meeting between Bowling Green and Akron will be the first of two this season scheduled between the teams and the 70th meeting all-time. Akron enters with the series lead, being 42-28 overall, but the two teams are even when playing in Bowling Green. When the Falcons host, each team has won 16 games.Â

The Falcons will be hosting Faith & Family night at the Stroh Center against Akron.

Regardless of vaccination status, all guests, staff, and vendors will be required to wear a face covering while in the Stroh Center. Fans are not required to show proof of vaccination to enter the Stroh Center, but face coverings – covering the nose and mouth – are required for all fans as they watch the game from their assigned seat and enter, exit, and move around. Children 2 and younger will not be required to wear a face covering. If spectators are unable to wear face coverings, they are encouraged not to attend games in-person for the sake of their health and the health of others.

Scouting The Zips
Akron will enter the game against the Falcons in the midst of an up-and-down stretch. After closing out their non-conference schedule on a five-game win streak, the Zips have gone 3-2 in MAC play. Akron was able to top Buffalo (88-76), Ball State (84-74) and Western Michigan (74-73) but came up short against Ohio (69-63) and Kent State (67-55). Sophomore forward Enrique Freeman leads the way for the Zips, averaging a double-double with 12.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
Plowden Reaches Century Mark
Daeqwon Plowden is set to log yet another milestone in the Orange and Brown on Thursday against Akron. Having already set the program record for games played at 140 going into the game against the Zips, Plowden is set to start his 100th game for the Falcons. Over his time with Bowling Green, Plowden has already worked his way into the top-20 all-time for scoring as well as top-10 all-time for both rebounds and blocks.Â
From Behind The Arc
The Falcons are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the Mid-American Conference and it has come in large part from Trey Diggs' efforts. Diggs is shooting 40.4% from three this season, leading the MAC and 58th in the nation. He is also third in the MAC for three-point field goals per game (2.6) and fourth for three-point attempts (109). As a team, BGSU is shooting 35.8% from behind the arc, third in the MAC, while being first in attempts (441) and three-point field goals per game (9.3).Â
Offense Top-10 In The Nation
Bowling Green has continued to put up strong offensive performances, most recently scoring 92 against Northern Illinois. The consistent offensive output has the Falcons averaging 83.9 points per game, seventh in the nation. The only teams averaging more points per game than BGSU are Gonzaga, Arizona, South Dakota State, Iowa, Purdue and Kentucky.

The Falcons and Zips will play on a Thursday marking the first Thursday game of the season for Bowling Green. The game will check off the final day of the week on the calendar, meaning the Falcons will have played at least one game on every day of the week during the 2021-22 campaign. The Falcons have played just once on Monday and a season-high six times on Tuesday.Â
