Junior midfielder also named to a pair of national teams of the week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) -- Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Maya Dean has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The league office announced this week's awards on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 11).
Dean also has been named to a pair of national teams. She was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, and also earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Dean earns all three honors for the first time in her BGSU career.
Dean, a native of Traverse City, Mich. (West), was directly involved in the scoring of five of BGSU's eight goals last week, as the Falcons posted a pair of 4-0 wins. On Thursday (Oct. 6) at Akron, Dean set a new career high with three points, assisting on the game-winning goal before scoring her first goal of the season on a blast from 20 yards away early in the second half.
Then, on Sunday (Oct. 9), Dean broke her three-day-old career best, with the first four-point match of her collegiate tenure. She scored the game-winning goal and added a pair of assists as the Falcons downed preseason MAC favorite Ohio at Cochrane Stadium. Dean's goal less than four minutes into the match proved to be all the scoring the Falcons would need, but the junior then had the primary assist on each of BGSU's other two first-half goals to give the Orange and Brown a 3-0 halftime lead.
Dean now has nine points on the season, with all nine coming in the last four matches. At the other end of the pitch, Dean helped the Falcons keep a pair of clean sheets against the Zips and Bobcats.
Dean and the Falcons (5-4-3, 3-1-2 MAC) head to Kent State for a Thursday night (Oct. 13) matchup, before returning home to meet league-leading Buffalo on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 16). The KSU contest begins at 7:00 p.m., with the UB match will start at 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
