BGSU Tallies Fourth Straight Victory Behind Season-Best Hitting Percentage

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program picked up their sixth straight win at home with a 3-0 victory over the Miami RedHawks on Wednesday night (Oct. 19). The Falcons jumped out to a strong lead in the first set and followed up with a 7-0 start in the second set, propelling BGSU to a quick 2-0 match lead. The RedHawks took a lead in the third set, but the Falcons were able to battle back and force extra points before ultimately winning the set 29-27 to secure the 3-0 match win.
On the court, Lauryn Hovey led the Falcons with another double-double, her sixth of the season. Katelyn Meyer was atop the stat sheet for BGSU in kills with 13 while contributing a .385 hitting percentage to a season-best mark of .349 for the team. The win moves the Falcons to 13-7 on the season while being 8-1 within the Mid-American Conference. Bowling Green has now won three straight matches by a 3-0 score.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Miami 15
- The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set and continued to build momentum, using a 4-1 stretch to carry the match into the media timeout with a 15-9 lead.
- Bowling Green added two more points out of the timeout to push the stretch to 6-1, including a 4-0 run, to prompt a timeout from the Miami bench.
- The run continued for the Falcons with three more points out of the timeout to bring another Miami timeout in the middle of a 7-0 run.
- The Redhawks used a 4-0 run out of the timeout to cut the lead to 20-13, but the Falcons were able to hold on for a 25-15 set win, ending the set with an ace from Julia Walz.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Miami 18
- The Falcons began the second set with a 7-0 run to take a commanding lead, but the RedHawks chipped away to bring the score to 8-6 and force a timeout from the BGSU bench.
- Bowling Green soon went on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 16-9 and bring a timeout from the RedHawks. The lead held for the Falcons to the next stoppage with the score at 20-13.
- The Orange and Brown pushed through to the end of the set with a 25-18 score to go up 2-0 for the match.
Set 3: Bowling Green 29, Miami 27
- The third set saw a close start with the first stoppage coming from a Bowling Green timeout with the score tied at 9-9 after a 3-0 Miami run.
- The set remained close until a timeout from the Falcons paused the action with the score at 23-20 Miami.
- The Falcons were able to force the set into extra points after trailing 24-22 and came out with a 29-27 set win to secure the 3-0 sweep.

- Lauryn Hovey tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 21 assists and 13 kills. Hovey was just three digs shy of registering her second triple-double of the season, ending with seven. Hovey has now logged a double-double or triple-double in four of the last five matches.
- For the second consecutive match, the Falcons have registered a season-best hitting percentage after logging a mark of .349 against Miami.
- Katelyn Meyer led the BGSU attack with 13 kills. Meyer also concluded the match with a hitting percentage of .385, the best mark of the season for the fifth-year senior.
- Jessica Andrews, Alexis Mettille and Kat Mandly all logged season-bests for attack percentage. Andrews tallied three kills on four attacks for a mark of .750. Mettille also had a mark of .750 with six kills on eight attacks. As for Mandly, she finished with a percentage of .316 with nine kills.
- The Falcons have now won three straight matches by scores of 3-0 and are winners of four straight as well as eight of the last nine. The Orange and Brown have also won six straight matches at home.
- BGSU has now topped Miami in seven straight matches as well as eight straight inside the Stroh Center against the RedHawks.
