O'Hara nets third goal of weekend, Stoever makes 39 saves
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons dropped the 2022-23 home opener to the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday (Oct. 8), 2-1. Ryan O'Hara netted a power play goal for the Falcons, his third goal of the weekend. Michigan State tied the game on a Tiernan Shoudy goal early in the second, then scored on a late power play to take the lead. Christian Stoever returned after missing the end of the first and beginning of the second period, making 39 saves on the night. The loss puts the Falcons at 2-2-0 on the season, with the Spartans earning their first win to move to 1-1-0.

Scoring Plays
- The Spartans were caught with too many men on the ice, giving the Falcons the game's first power play opportunity. With just over 30 seconds remaining on the power play, Austen Swankler passed the puck across ice to Dalton Norris. He tapped it down to Ryan O'Hara deep in the right circle, who sent it back to Eric Parker at the point. Parker fired at the net, finding O'Hara, who redirected it for the first Falcon goal. Parker and Norris earned the assists.
- Early in the second, the Spartans evened the score. Tanner Kelly secured the puck on the boards and skated to center ice. He found Tiernan Shoudy on the left side, who got behind the Falcons defense and fired a shot from the left circle to tie the game. Kelly had the lone assist.
- After a five-minute major penalty on BGSU, Michigan State took the lead late in the third with a power play score. Nash Nienhuis sent the puck from the point to the right, finding Nicolas Muller. He sent the puck at the net, where Daniel Russell redirected it for the game-winning goal. Nienhuis and Muller were credited with the assists.
- Ryan O'Hara scored his third goal of the weekend, giving him a season total of four that matches his total from the entire 2021-22 season. He has the team lead in goals and shares the Falcon lead in points with Austen Swankler (5).
- O'Hara's goal came on the power play, the first power play score of his career. The sophomore has 13 points in 37 career games.
- Eric Parker and Dalton Norris each tallied their third assist of the season. This was Parker's second of the weekend, giving him 15 in his career.
- The Falcons blocked 22 shots for the second night in a row. Leading the way with four apiece were Norris and Parker.
- Christian Stoever spent 54:22 in net, making 39 saves and allowing one goal. This is his second-highest career total and two shy of a career-best.
