Bowling Green Beats Hampton Behind Six Double-Digit Scorers
December 11, 2022 | Men's Basketball
HAMPTON, Va. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program picked up their second consecutive win on Sunday (Dec. 11), besting the Hampton Pirates on the road by a score of 86-72. The Falcons jumped out early with an 18-2 run to grant an 18-4 lead and eventually took a 20-point advantage in the first half. Hampton chipped away, cutting the lead down to single digits, but a late 15-1 run for the Orange and Brown reclaimed the cushion to roll into the victory. With the win, BGSU moves to 4-5 on the season and is now 2-0 against Hampton all-time.
The Falcons were led by a team attack, seeing six different players reach double-digit points and one more finish with nine. Samari Curtis and Rashaun Agee each finished with 14 points while Curtis tallied a team-high seven assists and Agee led the way in rebounds with eight. Isaac Elsasser was hot from three, hitting a season-high four triples to total 13 points. Willie Lightfoot added a career-high 11 while the double-digit scoring outputs rounded out with Leon Ayers III and Sam Towns each adding 10. Chandler Turner was close behind with nine points and seven rebounds.

QUOTE FROM COACH HUGER
"I thought we did a really good job of executing the game plan and knowing what it was. We knew that they were going to take tough shots, especially from their big three in [Marquis] Godwin, [Jordan] Nesbitt and [Deuce] Dean. We knew what was going to happen and we did a good job of controlling those guys early. Godwin and Nesbitt got off late in the game and made it a game. We always have to finish the game and complete the game."
