Falcons Right at Home in Third Day of MAC Championships
February 25, 2022 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team competed in Day 3 of the MAC Championships today.
Friday brought another strong showing for the Falcons. During prelims Anna Eriksson moved to 7th all-time in program history in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.05 and then during consolation finals added the 10th fastest time in program history with a time of 55.33.
Breaststroke swimmer Taylor Harris only got faster everytime she swam the 100 Yard Breaststroke. During prelims Harris tied with Toledo's Lauren Kilgore for the final championship spot with a time of 1:03.02 which became the 7th fastest time in school history. This tie resulted in a swim off with Harris narrowly beating out Kilgore with a time of 1:02.72, good enough for 6th in program history. Third time was the charm for Harris as she was able to swim to a 7th place finish in the MAC finals and improved her time again to 1:02.22, good for 4th in school history.
After two days of shuffling on the top 10 fastest times in events in school history Ava Vial got in on the action too. Vial swam to a 5th place finish in the 400 IM and to the 8th fastest time in school history with a time of 4:22.28. Vial also improved by 2 seconds from her seeding time during prelims.
Daisy Platts overtook one of her own program records for the second time in two days with a time of 52.13 during prelims in the 100 Backstroke, just 0.03 off tying the MAC Record. Daisy then secured a victory during the night session with a time of 52.19, the 2nd fastest time in school history. Platts now has won the 100 Backstroke 3 straight years at the MAC Championship and holds the 10 fastest times in program history in the event.
As good as the individuals were today, the 400 Medley Relay team brought out the best in all of them. Daisy Platts, Taylor Harris, Anna Eriksson, and Elayna Krupp broke the school record in the 400 Medley with a time of 3:40.19 and earned 4th place in the event. The previous relay record was beaten by 0:00.60 and had stood for 8 years. This is also the second time this week that the relay team of Platts, Harris, Eriksson, and Krupp broke a school record.
The Divers did not disappoint either. Wherever you looked at the 3-Meter Dive results you saw brown and orange. Bowling Green had 5 Falcon divers in the top 16, the most by any team in the MAC. Kylie Mosset, Zoe Smith, Sarah Butt, and Grace Ellis secured spots 13-16 in the consolation finals while Rayah Blood captured the 6th spot. Blood will be looking to secure the top spot in the MAC tomorrow during the 3-Meter Dive Championship Finals.

Rickey's Reactions
"It was a fun and exciting night. The divers did a wonderful job of getting into scoring spots. Daisy's 100 Backstroke was great, Taylor getting her best time in the 100 Breaststroke, Anna's 100 Butterfly was solid, and her relay split really helped us break the school record in the 400 Medley Relay. Elayna Krupp's relay split in the 400 Medley was incredible. Both Lily and Ava improving their times in the 400 IM during the night session was special. We are very excited for what Saturday brings."
