Falcons Close Out First Conference Series Of The Season

OXFORD, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program concluded the first weekend of play within the Mid-American Conference on Sunday (March 13), closing out the weekend series against the Miami (OH) RedHawks. After playing a doubleheader on Friday, the two teams played another pair of games on Sunday. Miami came away with all four games in the series. As for the games on Sunday, they were 13-3 and 10-3 finals. The Falcons will return to action next weekend on the road against Ball State.

The Falcons will play one more road series before returning home to Stellar Field on March 22. Next up for the Orange and Brown will be a trip to Muncie, Ind., set for a four-game series against Ball State. The first game of the weekend is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18. The Falcons and Cardinals will play a doubleheader on Saturday before concluding the series on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- The Falcons quickly put a tally on the scoreboard, registering the game's first run in the top of the first. Jack Krause began with a leadoff single, advancing to second on the play as well. A groundout advanced Krause to third before a Justin Fugitt single scored the first run of the game, putting BGSU up 1-0.
- Miami answered in the bottom half of the first. A bases-loaded double play tallied the first run for the RedHawks followed by a triple to push the score to 2-1. A walk then put runners at the corners before a double down the left field line scored another pair, making it 4-1 Miami after one.
- Bowling Green responded in the top of the second with two runs. Ryan Johnston began the inning with a walk before Tyler Ross reached on a throwing error. A fly out by Krause moved the runners up to second and third before a Kyle Gurney single to left center brought both runs around to cut the deficit down to 4-3.
- The bottom of the second saw the RedHawks increase their lead. A single began the inning before an error put runners on second and third. A single to center scored two unearned runs, bringing the score to 6-3 Miami.
- Later in the second, with runners on second and third, a single scored two more for Miami to increase their lead to 8-3.
- Miami added to the tally in the third inning. An RBI double and two-run home run pushed the score to 11-3.
- The Redhawks added two more in the fourth. A two-out double tallied the first run before an error resulted in the second to give Miami a 13-3 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- Jack Krause led off the second game of the series with a solo home run to center, giving BGSU a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons added to the lead in the second inning. Nathan Archer began the inning with a triple before a sacrifice fly by Gavin Ganun brought him home for the 2-0 advantage.
- In the bottom of the third the RedHawks answered with a pair of runs to tie it up. A one-out double set the stage for an RBI single for the first run. Another single followed by a sac bunt brought in the second run to tie it up 2-2.
- With the game tied in the top of the sixth the Falcons loaded the bases thanks to a walk, hit by pitch and a single before Ganun drew a walk to push across the third run for BGSU, taking a 3-2 lead.
- Miami responded in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff single followed by an RBI double tied the game up at 3-3.
- Later in the inning a two-run double, bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly made the score 7-3 Miami.
- Miami added another in the eighth. A sacrifice bunt with runners at the corners extended the lead to 8-3.
- Back-to-back RedHawk doubles with a sacrifice fly added to the end pushed the Miami lead to 10-3.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Jack Krause's leadoff home run was the second home run for the Falcons in their first at-bat this season. The other came off the bat of Adam Fallon against Eastern Kentucky on March 4.
- The two-RBI for Gavin Ganun in the day's second game marks the second multiple-RBI game of the season for the freshman after having three against Saint Louis earlier this season.
- Kyle Gurney also logged his second multiple-RBI game of the season, having two in the first game against Miami. Gurney previously had two RBI in the first game of the season.
