BGSU's slate includes home date vs. Louisville, three Spring Cup matchups
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team has announced the schedule for the spring of 2023. Head coach Jimmy Walker and the Falcons are slated to play five total contests, including three matchups in the inaugural Spring Cup.
The Falcons' spring schedule starts on February 24, with a contest at Ohio State. Then, in April, the Orange and Brown will begin play in the Spring Cup, taking on Michigan State and Louisville.
BGSU will meet the Spartans in East Lansing on April 2, then will host the Cardinals six days later (April 8).
On April 15, a veritable plethora of former Falcon greats are expected to return to campus for the program's Alumnae match.
The spring schedule concludes with a final Spring Cup matchup. BGSU, UofL and MSU comprise one division in the Spring Cup, with Dayton, Ohio and Xavier making up the other division. On April 22, a tripleheader at Xavier will see each division's third-place, second-place and first-place teams square off.
"We are really looking forward to playing in the league this spring," said Falcon coach Jimmy Walker. "It is going to be a very competitive environment for our program as we prepare this group for the fall of 2023. We will play elite competition as we face Louisville from the ACC as well as Big Ten Champions Michigan State.
"Our offseason is all about development, and there is no better way to improve individually and as a team than playing elite competition -- we are excited for this spring!"
BGSU finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 9-5-5 and a MAC mark of 6-2-3, good for third place in the 12-team league. The Falcons ended the season on a six-match unbeaten streak, and went 6-1-2 over the last month of the year. In those nine games, BGÂ outscored the opponents, 21-4.
The Falcons, who won the MAC regular-season and tournament titles from 2018-21, are now 67-31-16 overall, 45-11-5 in MAC regular-season matches and 55-12-8 in all games vs. conference foes since the start of the 2017 season.
Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, the Falcons are 54-24-15 overall, 39-7-4 in MAC regular-season action and 47-7-7 in all games vs. league opposition.
