Falcons Record Fourth Straight Win With Weekend Sweep Over Kent State

Walz Leads Team In Assists And Digs For Team-Leading Sixth Double-Double

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team completed the weekend sweep over Kent State in a 3-0 final on Saturday (Oct. 21). The win marks the fourth straight for the Falcons, their longest winning streak of the season. The Orange and Brown finished with a hitting percentage north of .400 for the third straight match, finishing with a .417 mark.Â
Jaden Walz paced the Falcons, leading the team in both assists and digs with 37 and a career-high 16, respectively. On the attack, Lauryn Hovey led the way with 15 kills and a .542 attack percentage. Mia Tyler followed closely with 11 kills and a .529 mark. Â

How It HappenedÂ
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 17
- The Falcons and Golden Flashes traded points before a 5-0 run pushed the BGSU lead to 7-3 early in the set.
- Kent State responded with a 3-0 burst to trim the deficit down to 8-7, before tying it up at 12-12. The Falcons were able to reclaim their lead at 15-13 before the media timeout.
- The Golden Flashes tied it up again at 15-15, but the Falcons went on a 10-2 stretch from there to close the set, starting with a 5-0 run. BGSU then finished it out with a 4-0 run for the 25-17 set score.Â
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 16
- The second set began with the two teams going back-and-forth before Kent State took an 8-6 lead with a 4-0 run.
- The Falcons were able to tie it up at 8-8 before later tallying a 4-0 run of their own to claim a 15-12 advantage at the media timeout.
- Bowling Green continued to add to their lead, moving ahead 19-14, before Kent State stopped the action with a timeout.
- Kent State called their second timeout just a few points later with the Bowling Green lead at 21-15.
- For the second set in a row, Bowling Green closed it out with a 4-0 run to claim the 25-16 set score.Â
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 11
- The third set began the same as the first two with the trading of points before a 3-0 run created separation for the Orange and Brown with a 7-4 lead.
- Kent State landed a point, but another 3-0 run for BGSU made it a 6-1 stretch in favor of the Falcons with a 10-5 lead and a Golden Flashes timeout.Â
- The Falcons landed the next three points out of the timeout to extend the stretch to 9-1 with a 13-5 lead.Â
- Another 3-0 run later in the set pushed the Bowling Green advantage to 18-7 with Kent State burning their second timeout.
- The Orange and Brown were able to maintain their lead through the end of the set for a 25-11 score and a 3-0 sweep.

- After entering the weekend tied for 28th in the nation for team aces, the Falcons landed 20 over the two matches, including a season-high 12 on Saturday (Oct. 21).
- After entering as the team-leader and seventh in the MAC, Lauryn Hovey landed a team-high five aces for the Falcons to bring her season total to 40. Hovey also led the team in kills with 15 while registering a season-best .542 hitting percentage.
- For the third straight match, Bowling Green finished with a hitting percentage above. 400, logging a mark of .417 with 43 kills on 84 attacks with just eight errors.Â
- For the second straight match, Mia Tyler finished with a hitting percentage above .500, landing 11 kills on 17 attempts with two errors for a mark of .529 after hitting .588 on Friday (Oct. 20) with the same line, but one fewer error.Â
- Jaden Walz led the Orange and Brown in both assists and digs, logging 37 assists and a career-high 16 digs for her team-leading sixth double-double. Walz's assist total brought her career mark to 1,521 to move across the 1,500-career assist milestone.
- With the win, the Falcons have won eight straight over the Golden Flashes as well as 16 of the last 17.Â
