Falcons Top Eastern Michigan For Fifth Straight Victory

Walz Tallies Seventh Double-Double
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team topped the Eastern Michigan Eagles in three sets on Thursday (Oct. 26). The Falcons and Eagles battled in all three sets, but it was the Falcons out on top each time. The win marks the fifth straight for Bowling Green and the fourth in a row by a three-set sweep. BGSU is now 12-11 on the season and 6-6 within the MAC.
Jaden Walz led the way for the Falcons, recording a team-high 35 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Alex Laboy nearly joined her with a team-high 13 digs and eight assists. On the attack, Kat Mandly matched her season-high for kills with 17 followed by Mia Tyler and Lauryn Hovey, both with 12.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Eastern Michigan 17
- Lauryn Hovey landed the first point of the match to grant BGSU a 1-0 lead, but EMU responded with a 3-0 run to move in front 3-1. The Falcons quickly answered to knot the score up at 3-3.
- Eastern Michigan was able to tally a 3-0 run to reclaim their advantage at 6-3, but the Falcons worked back to a tie at 7-7.
- A 4-0 run for the Falcons pushed BGSU out in front 9-7 before another tie came at 9-9.
- Another 4-0 run in favor of the Falcons granted the Orange and Brown a 13-9 advantage before taking a 15-10 lead into the media timeout.
- Soon after the timeout Eastern Michigan went on a 3-0 run to trim the deficit down to 16-13, but two late 3-0 Bowling Green runs extended the BGSU lead and secured the first set for the Falcons.
Set 2: Bowling Green 27, Eastern Michigan 25
- The two teams traded points early before a 4-0 run for Eastern Michigan pushed them in front 7-5.
- The Falcons quickly responded with a 4-0 run of their own to take a 9-7 lead and force an Eastern Michigan timeout.
- The swings continued, this time with a 5-0 burst for EMU that made it a 13-10 lead for the Eagles and brought a Bowling Green timeout.
- Out of the timeout, the Falcons were able to put together a 3-0 run to tie the score at 13-13.
- Bowling Green was able to edge out in front with a 17-15 advantage to force the second EMU timeout of the set.
- The battle between the two teams continued with Eastern Michigan tying it up again at 18-18 before moving in front 20-18 with the Falcons taking their second timeout of the set.
- The back-and-forth continued with another tie, this time at 22-22 and again at 23-23 and 24-24 to send the set into extra points.
- The Falcons were able to take the set in extra points to move ahead 2-0 for the match.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Eastern Michigan 22
- In the third set Eastern Michigan jumped out to a 7-4 lead to force a timeout from the Bowling Green bench.
- Another 5-0 run later in the set extended the EMU advantage to 12-5 to bring the second BGSU timeout of the set.
- Eastern Michigan landed the first point out of the timeout, but the Falcons tallied a 4-0 run to trim the lead down to 13-9 and force a timeout, this time from EMU.
- The Falcons continued to chip away at the lead, bringing it down to 19-17 before the second EMU timeout of the set.
- Eastern landed the first point out of the timeout, but the Falcons quickly tallied a 3-0 run to tie the set at 20-20.
- Bowling Green rolled the 3-0 run into an 8-2 stretch that closed out the set and the match for the sweep.
