BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team took on the rival Rockets of the University of Toledo on Friday night (Oct. 6) in the Stroh Center. The Falcons were paced by Lauryn Hovey in the five set match against Toledo with Hovey registering her first triple-double of the season with 16 kills, 17 assists and 12 digs. Jaden Walz added a double-double for the Orange and Brown with 35 assists and 11 digs, her fourth of the season. Despite the strong stat lines, it was Toledo that pulled out the close final with a 3-2 score. The Falcons will now shift attention to Ball State at home on Saturday (Oct. 7).Â

How It HappenedÂ
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Toledo 17
- The Falcons and Rockets traded runs early before a 4-1 stretch for Bowling Green pushed BGSU out in front 12-9 with UT taking a timeout.
- The Orange and Brown recorded the next two points out of the timeout to push their advantage to 14-9. The lead stretched to 16-11 before Toledo took their second timeout of the set.
- The momentum continued for BGSU through the timeout, going on a 6-1 stretch to push the lead to 22-12.
- Toledo chipped away at the lead late with a 4-1 stretch, but the Falcons were able to claim the first set 25-17 to go up 1-0 for the match.Â
Set 2: Toledo 28, Bowling Green 26
- The Falcons started off the second set with a 6-1 stretch to move out in front by the same score.Â
- Toledo was able to put together a 4-1 stretch to trim the lead to 7-5. BGSU tallied back-to-back points before a 3-0 UT run closed the gap to 9-8 with the Falcons taking a timeout.
- The Falcons responded with a 3-0 run of their own out of the timeout to increase the lead to 12-8 and force a UT timeout.
- The Rockets continued to chip away at the score, tying it up at 14-14. The ties continued at 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17 before a 4-1 BGSU stretch put the Falcons in front 19-17 with UT taking their second timeout.
- Toledo tallied a 3-0 stretch late in the set to cut into the lead, 23-22, with BGSU taking their final timeout of the set.
- The set went into extra points with both teams trading points late. UT closed out the set with a 4-1 stretch to even the match at 1-1 with a 28-26 set score.
Set 3: Toledo 25, Bowling Green 18
- To start the third set, Toledo utilized a pair of 3-0 runs to take a 7-3 lead to force a timeout from the BGSU bench.
- Out of the timeout the Rockets recorded a 5-1 stretch to increase their advantage to 12-4 with Bowling Green taking their second timeout.
- The Falcons were able to string together a 3-0 run out of the timeout to trim the lead to 12-7 with a Toledo timeout.
- The Falcons and Rockets traded points until a 4-0 Bowling Green stretch cut the lead down to 17-15 with Toledo taking their second timeout of the set.
- The two teams again traded points, but a 4-1 stretch closed the set in favor of Toledo 25-18 to put them ahead 2-1 for the match.
Set 4: Bowling Green 25, Toledo 22
- BGSU tallied the first run of the fourth set with a 4-0 stretch to move in front 8-5.
- The two teams continued to go back-and-forth before the media timeout paused the action with Bowling Green leading 15-12.
- Out of the media break, Toledo landed the first point but the Falcons responded with a 3-0 run to move out in front 18-13 and force a UT timeout.
- The Falcons remained in front up to the next stoppage, being a Toledo timeout with the score at 22-18 BGSU.
- A 3-0 run with BGSU on set point closed the gap to 24-22 with the Orange and Brown taking a timeout.
- The Falcons were able to land the next point out of the timeout to take the set 25-22 and force a fifth set.Â
Set 5: Toledo 15, Bowling Green 9
- BGSU and UT traded points to begin the fifth set before a 3-0 Toledo spurt pushed the Rockets ahead 5-2 with the Falcons using a timeout.
- A 3-1 stretch out of the timeout in favor of the Rockets prompted the second Bowling Green timeout of the set with the score at 8-3.
- The Falcons started to chip away with a 3-1 stretch of their own to trim the lead to 12-6 with Toledo taking a timeout.
- The two teams again traded points after the timeout with Toledo taking the set and the match.

Falcon Stat Facts
- Lauryn Hovey registered her first triple-double of the season and fourth of her career, landing a team-high 16 kills to go along with a season-high 17 assists and 12 digs. With Amanda Otten having two triple-doubles previously this season, BGSU is now one of two teams in the nation with multiple players logging a triple-double, joining UT Martin.
- Hovey also tied for the team-lead in aces with three, bringing her season total to 27. The mark sets a new single-season-high for Hovey during her BGSU career, passing her 26 from last season.
- Jaden Walz finished with her fourth double-double of the season. Walz concluded the match with a team-leading 35 assists, surpassing the 30-assist mark for the fourth time this season, to go along with 11 digs.Â
- As a team, Bowling Green hit double-digit aces for the second time this season, landing 10. They landed a season-high 11 against Northern Illinois.Â
- Entering in the third set for the Falcons, Hannah Best registered a career-high seven digs for the Orange and Brown. She also recorded 17 serve receptions and didn't commit an error. Â
- On the attack, Alexis Mettille added a season-high nine kills for the Falcons while maintaining a team-best .412 hitting percentage.Â
- As a team, the Falcons recorded 71 digs marking the second time this season logging 70 or more. The other came in the four set win over Wright State when the Falcons had 77.
