Bowling Green will compete in 10 regular season meets before MAC Championships
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green track and field program has announced the schedule for the 2023 outdoor season. The Falcons will compete in 10 regular season meets, all on the road, before traveling to Akron for the 2023 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The regular season meets are spread across six states, with four being held in Ohio.
Â
The outdoor season begins on Friday, March 17, when the Falcons travel to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the Blizzard Buster. This event has served as the outdoor season opener the last two seasons and BGSU has had a shot put winner in each year. Last year, Zaresha Neal earned first place, one year after Ebonie Whitted took the crown. They have the following weekend off but will get an early start on the following weekend with a trip to Austin for the Texas Relays. The meet will begin on Wednesday, March 29, and last until Saturday, April 1. While a portion of the team is competing down south, the rest of the Falcons will head to Cincinnati for the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational (March 31-April 1). In 2021, Jemeila Hunter and Brianna Richard were part of the 4x100 relay team that finished 10th in Texas with a time that now ranks ninth in school history. At last year's Oliver Nikoloff Invite, Zaresha Neal, Darian Braddix, and Tianna Mulligan each had a PR.
Â
From April 7-9, Bowling Green will be in Knoxville, competing in the Tennessee Relays. The following weekend, they will split for three separate meets. Two groups will be in California, with the first competing at the 63rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut from April 12-15. The other will be in Azusa for the Bryan Clay Invitational. The third group of Falcons will stay closer to home, participating in the Ball State Challenge on April 14-15. In 2022, Katerina Shuble PR'd in the 1500 at the Mt. SAC Relays with a time that is third in program history. At last season's Ball State Challenge, Tianna Mulligan notched a PR in the 200 and Kristin Groppe was the runner-up in the 3K Steeplechase.
Â
On April 21-22, BGSU will travel to Columbus for the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State. They close April with a trip to Louisville, competing in the Clark Wood Invitational on April 28-29. Last year's Clark Wood Invite was a successful weekend for the Falcons, with Kailee Perry, Darian Braddix, and Alexis Parchman tallying PRs and Zaresha Neal winning the shot put. The Falcons will get an early look at the MAC Championship site on May 5, competing in the Akron Tune Up. Bowling Green participated in the Akron Invite during the indoor season, with the Falcons collecting three PRs, seven season-bests, and four first-place finishes during the Saturday events. Additionally, Jenna Lucas, Katherine Mendenhall, and Destiny Fernandes took the third through fifth places in the Friday pentathlon.
Â
The following week, they will go back to Akron for the 2023 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held from May 11-13. BGSU placed eighth at the 2022 MAC Championships, with Kailee Perry setting the school record in the 1500, Zaresha Neal winning the discus, and Brianna Richard taking fourth in the triple jump with a PR.
Â
Those who qualify for the 2023 NCAA East Regional Preliminary will compete on May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Florida. Last season, Zaresha Neal placed 10th in the shot put to qualify for the NCAA Championships. In 2021, Neal and Brianna Richard competed at the NCAA Regionals. The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Austin, Texas, from June 7-10, with athletes who qualify in the NCAA Regionals competing for All-American status. Last year, Neal placed 18th in the shot put.
