BGSU Men's Hoops Set For Senior Night Saturday Against Kent State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team returns to the Stroh Center this Saturday (Feb. 25) for the first of two consecutive home games. The Falcons will host the Kent State Golden Flashes for a 5 p.m. tip, part of a BGSU athletics quadruple-header. It will also be Senior Night for Bowling Green with the team's seniors being recognized before the game. The game will be available for fans to watch on ESPN3. Saturday will mark the 171st meeting all-time, and the second this season, between Bowling Green and Kent State. The all-time series falls in favor of the Falcons with a record of 89-81, despite the Golden Flashes taking the last seven games. BGSU also holds the advantage when hosting with a record of 52-27 when the series is played in Bowling Green. In the first meeting this season, Kaden Metheny led the way with 19 points while Leon Ayers III added 13, Sam Towns tallied nine and both Rashaun Agee and Brenton Mills scored eight.

Scouting The Golden FlashesÂ
Kent State is coming off a loss, just their third in conference play, falling to Ball State 82-70. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Golden Flashes and dropped them to second in the MAC standings. Kent State enters with the top-ranked defense in the MAC, giving up 64.2 points a game this season and holding opponents to a mark of 39.9% from the field and 31.4% from three, both ranked at the top of the conference as well. Kent State also leads the conference in steals, averaging 9.3 per game.Â
Metheny Nearing Record Book StatusÂ
Kaden Metheny is just two three-pointers away from adding his name to the BGSU Men's Basketball record book. Metheny has a team-high 64 triples this season, setting a new career-high for his time as a Falcon. Currently, Trey Diggs is 10th in program history for three-pointers in a single season with 66. Metheny enters Tuesday's game needing two to tie and three to pass Diggs for 10th. Brian Moten is currently ninth with 69. Metheny is averaging 2.6 triples a game with three games remaining in the regular season, putting him on pace to finish the regular season with 71.
Turning Defense Into OffenseÂ
The last time out, the Falcons recorded 10 steals against Miami, marking the third time this season with 10+ steals in a game. The active defense created 17 points off of turnovers for the Falcons, as well as 17 fastbreak points. Over the last five games, BGSU is averaging 7.8 steals per game and 16.4 points per game off of turnovers. As for fastbreaks, the Falcons are averaging 12.89 fastbreak points per game this season, which ranks second in the MAC and 36th in the nation.Â
Finding The Open ManÂ
The Falcons concluded the game against Miami with 10 assists, marking three straight games with 10+ assists for BGSU. Over the course of the season, Bowling Green has logged 10+ assists in 21 of the team's 28 games. In those 21 games, the Falcons have shot 46.6% from the field. However, in games that the team has come short of 10 assists, BGSU has shot 42.5%.Â
Curtis Catching Fire
Over the last five games, Samari Curtis has led the Falcons in scoring and assists, averaging 15.5 points and 3.8 assists per game. The stretch has included 20 points against Ball State, 18 points against Toledo and 17 points against Miami in addition to seven assists against Central Michigan and six against Toledo. Curtis missed the last game against Kent State.Â
