Campbell Eyeing Scoring Milestones
Javontae Campbell is closing in on a couple scoring milestones for his collegiate career. Across his career at all levels, Campbell has totaled 1,871 points, now just 129 points shy of 2,000. As for his time in the Orange and Brown, Campbell has tallied 800 points, 200 shy of 1,000 for the Falcons. If he can reach 1,000 for BGSU he would be the first 1,000-point scorer for Bowling Green since Daeqwon Plowden ended his BGSU career with 1,618 points in 2022, eighth in program history. With 13 games left in the regular season, Campbell would need to average 15.4 points per game for the mark, but postseason points would count towards the milestone as well.Â
Scouting The Broncos
Western Michigan enters the game against BGSU with a 7-11 record on the season while being 1-5 in the MAC. Their lone conference win came at home on Jan. 10, topping Eastern Michigan in a 79-62 final score. The Broncos also came up short to UMass at home on Jan. 13, their last home game, by just a possession with an 85-82 final. Western Michigan has recently gained back a key playmaker, Justice Williams. Making his season debut on Dec. 30, Williams has appeared in five of WMU's six MAC games and has averaged 19.6 points over 29.0 minutes per game, both leading the team.Â
BGSU vs. Western Michigan, All-Time
Bowling Green and Western Michigan will be meeting for the 131st time in program history with the Falcons holding the all-time lead, 78-52. BGSU also has the edge when playing in Kalamazoo with a 33-32 record. The two met twice last year with the road team winning each game. For the Falcons, Javontae Campbell appeared in both, averaging 9.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game against the Broncos.Â
Wol Starting Strong
Mayar Wol has started the last four games for the Falcons and has established himself as a constant scoring threat. In the four games, he's eclipsed 20 points three times and is averaging 22.5 points per game as a starter. Additionally, he's made at least three three-pointers in each game, including five against both Akron and Eastern Michigan in the last two games. The scoring barrage has pushed Wol to second on the team for scoring this season, now averaging 13.4 points per game this year.Â
Glover On The Glass
Troy Glover II has emerged as a force on the glass for the Falcons over the last few games. After not solely leading the team in rebounds through the first 15 games, Glover has now done so in each of the last three contests. He hauled in eight boards against Kent State, nine against Akron and 10 against Eastern Michigan as part of his second double-double of the season. Last year, he averaged 8.6 rebounds for Missouri-St. Louis, ranking second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on his way to being named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year. This year, Glover is averaging 4.9 rebounds per game, but is up to 9.0 boards per game over the last three contests.Â
Campbell On Record-Breaking Pace
Through 18 games, Javontae Campbell is averaging 3.3 steals per game with 59 total. His average is currently leading the nation while his total ranks second in the country. Campbell is currently on pace for 101 steals, which would break not only his own single-season record for the Falcons of 90 last season, but also threaten the current MAC record, set at 103 by Ball State's Bonzi Wells in 1997-98.Â
