Bowling Green's Previous Weekend
The Falcons enjoyed more success in the final regular season meet, competing at the University of Michigan's Silverston Invitational on Friday, Feb. 17. Katerina Shuble had a PR in the 800 at 2:14.16, which places her fifth in program history. Also etching their names in the record book were Izzy Best and Raegan Burkey, who now rank fifth and sixth in school history in the 600. Zaresha Neal won the shot put with a mark of 55-0.00 (16.76m), which is 13th in school history. Neal has five of the top 15 and eight of the top 20 shot put marks in school history. Kami Baker (shot put), Katherine Mendenhall (60 hurdles), Tianna Mulligan (400), and Alexis Parchman (200) each had a PR, while Riley Robertson ran a season-best in the mile.
Â
Other Notable Falcon Efforts
The 2022-23 season has featured a plethora of strong performances from the Orange and Brown, beginning with Katerina Shuble's 3K run at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 9. She placed third with a time of 9:36.09, which is a PR and second-best time in school history. The next day, the Falcons hosted the Tom Wright Open, the first home meet in nearly two years. After the winter break, BGSU hosted the Falcon Early Bird Open (Jan. 14) and earned the team crown, outscoring Eastern Michigan, 111-110.
Â
The Falcons hit the road for the YSU Collegiate Invite, which featured a PR in the long jump from Brianna Richard (19-6.25, 5.95m). This gave her a first-place finish and the third-best mark in school history. Bowling Green split the following weekend, competing at the SPIRE Collegiate Invite and Penn State National Open. At the two meets, BGSU combined for five PRs, eight times or marks that rank in the program's top-16, and 23 top-10 finishes. Following her win in the shot put, Zaresha Neal was named MAC Field Athlete of the Week.
Â
To open February, BGSU competed in the two-day Akron Invite. The first day was primarily the pentathlon, which saw the Falcons take places three through five. Jenna Lucas (3rd), Katherine Mendenhall (4th), and Destiny Fernandes (5th) each had at least one PR during the day, with Lucas finishing with a point total of 3,458. She now ranks fifth in school history in pentathlon scores. The next day, the Falcon momentum continued, with four first-place finishes, three more PRs, and seven season-bests.
Â
The following weekend featured some of Bowling Green's top performances of the season, with the Orange and Brown competing at the GVSU Big Meet. Zaresha Neal won the shot put by matching her PR, a mark of 17.19m that currently ranks 14th in the NCAA. Katerina Shuble had the second-best mile time in school history, making her one of seven Falcons to record a PR in their race. The next day saw the DMR team of Shuble, Raegan Burkey, Izzy Best, and Kylee Cubbison place fourth with a time of 11:42.35, which is the fourth-best in school history. Last weekend, BGSU closed the regular season at the Silverston Invitational, recording five PRs throughout the day. Best (600) and Shuble (800) each ran a time that ranks in the program's top five. Zaresha Neal won the shot put with her second-best mark of the year (16.76m) and earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.

Bowling Green's Previous Time Hosting MACs
The last time Bowling Green hosted the MAC Indoor Championships was 2018, a year that featured a third-place finish for the Falcons. This ties the highest team finish during Head Coach Lou Snelling's time at BGSU, with the Orange and Brown also taking third in 2021. BeJai Fray (Pentathlon) and Aliyah Gustafson (Weight Throw) each broke the program record and placed in the top three, with Elizabeth Iversen and Kaila Butler adding top-six finishes in the weight throw as well. Peyton Lee placed fifth in the pentathlon and qualified for the finals in the 60 Hurdles. The following day, Gustafson and Iversen earned the top two spots in the shot put. BGSU saw top-five finishes from Stacey Wolverton (3rd in High Jump) and Kyla Paster (5th in Triple Jump), as well as the 4x400 Relay team.
Â
Coach Snelling's Outlook
"Every MAC Championship is special, those at home tend to soar above. We're one of the most balanced teams in the conference this year among all event groups. If we can get some momentum early, that balance could be clutch. Our first opportunities to get Rolling Along on Friday are in the pentathlon [10:30 a.m.] and long jump [12 p.m.]. Saturday will start with the triple jump [11:00 a.m.], shot put [1:30 p.m.], and mile [1:40 p.m.]. It would be great to see the BG faithful get loud for us at those moments, helping us build into a couple of great days of track and field."
