DAY TWO RESULTS
ATHENS, Ohio – The claps grew louder by the second.
Underneath a clear blue sky after a rain delay halted competition for a couple hours, Morgan Patterson was ready for her moment as she sprinted down the long jump runway for her fifth attempt – gaining more momentum with each clap.
The junior leapt into the Athens, Ohio air and landed cleanly into the sand pit, jumping a mark of 6.17m that secured her MAC runner-up finish in the event as her teammates cheered with jubilation.
It marked BGSU's highest finisher in the event since Huina Han won it back in 1998.
Despite the 6.17m mark being wind-aided (2.8), her second-best attempt of 6.12m tied Han's program record set in the same season.
It was a much-needed performance for the Falcons, as it raised their team point totals to 44 – just behind leader and defending champion Kent State (48) for second after Day 2 of MAC Championships competition.
Trista Fintel also had another outstanding showing – this time in the shot put.
The grad transfer from Findlay won the event with a lifetime PR of 16.38m, which occurred on her final throw after she fouled off her first two attempts in the championship round.
She also became only the second thrower in MAC history to win both the hammer throw and shot put events, joining Miami's Lauren Collins from 2003.
Lane Anderson also qualified for the shot put finals, finishing in ninth with a toss of 14.20m. Sierra Brinson came in tenth (14.00m) and had the best throw of any freshman in the field.
Jenna Lucas ended the grueling heptathlon event in sixth with 4,772 points. Her best finish on the final day of competition came in the javelin (35.43m) as she placed third. The junior also competed in the long jump and 800m sections.
Three event finals will have Falcons in them on Saturday.
DaMya Barker's 13.56 in the 100m hurdles (2.9 wind) was runner-up in the prelims, automatically qualifying her for the finals of the event.
Kiersten Franklin recorded a PR in the 100m dash prelims with a mark of 11.61, which was third. The freshmen duo of Rachael Hoover (2:08.19) and Reese Reaman (2:08.94) went 2-3 in the 800m prelims as well.
As for other prelim competitors, Alexis Parchman (11.89) took 11th in the 100m dash while Christabelle Obi recorded a 13th-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.41). Reagan Campbell was Bowling Green's best finisher in the 400m prelims, taking 11th with a time of 56.76.
