In her fourth year at BGSU, Kayla Davis has solidfied herself on the BGSU women's golf program. The Gahanna, Ohio native was a second-team All-MAC slection in 2022 and has routinely been a Top-15 finisher this year for the Falcons. Davis recently sat down to share, which includes insight into to her golf game, her favorite spots in town and where you need to go if you are passing through her hometown.

Q: Starting off, you are in your senior year. What has this journey been like for you at Bowling Green?
Davis: I am so grateful to be a part of BGSU Women’s Golf. It has been an amazing experience for me. I love my teammates and coaches. We have the best support system here. We get the opportunity to play on some really beautiful golf courses too which is so much fun.
Q: You have played in a lot of tournaments for the Falcons. Where of been some of your favorite places to play?
Davis: I love being able to compete and I am super grateful for all of the opportunities I have had to do so. My favorite tournament that we have played in is the Falcon Florida Classic. We get to travel down to Sarasota, Fla., and play in some sunshine which is awesome. It was also special to play the MAC Championship last spring at Stone Oak since that course is right in our backyards.
Q: Which private and public courses are ones that you have not played that are dream courses to tee up on?
Davis: I have always wanted to watch the Master’s in person, being able to play at Augusta would be even more amazing.

Q: You are studying adolescence to young adult education. What are your career plans after BGSU?
Davis: I am planning on taking my fifth-year next year to get my master’s, but then I do want to teach high school science. I would love to be able to teach marine biology.
Q: Growing up, how did you gravitate towards golf. Did you play any other sports?
Davis: Growing up I did gymnastics, dance, tennis, swimming and golf. My Dad taught me how to play golf when I was ten years old and has been with me every step of the way since then. I loved spending time with him and always wanted to try to beat him. That’s when golf became my favorite sport and I have stuck with it ever since. I really like golf because you are always competing against yourself and the course. It requires a lot of strategy and allows for a lot of creativity as well. Golf can also be very relaxing at times since we play on some pretty courses.

Q: Which club saves you the most?
Davis: My pitching wedge is probably my favorite club that helps me on a lot of Par-5’s. However, my putter would be a close second. I have really come to enjoy putting more and it has been showing in my birdie conversions.
Q: Of all the courses you have played, which hole is the most scenic to you?
Davis: My favorite hole is No. 18 on my home course back home. It’s a Par-5 but it has a double green with two different pins, which means you get to pick which hole you want to go for which is fun. It’s also a beautiful golf course that I spend a lot of my summers on.
Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
Davis: I don’t like seafood of any kind.
Q: Is there a Falcon on this team that many people haven’t heard about that could make a big impact on the 2023 spring season?
Davis: Olivia Steen one of our new freshmen this year, has just about the best golf swing I have ever seen for such a young golfer. I have no doubt that she is going to be a great leader for us and has already impacted our spring season in a positive way.

Q: You hail from Gahanna, Ohio, which is just outside of Columbus. If someone is coming to your hometown, or passing through, where is a place they should visit or grab a meal (what should they order) to get the full experience of your home area?
Davis: If you’re ever passing through Gahanna, I would head right on over to Easton and stop at North Star Cafe. It’s one of my favorite places to eat at home. We always go there after church on Sundays.
Q: Your dad played football at Ohio State. Did you grow up going to games?
Davis: No not really but I am a Buckeye fan!
Q: What are some things on your “bucket list”?
Davis: I have always wanted to go to Yellowstone National Park!
Q: Describe Coach Fahey in one word?
Davis: If I were to describe Coach Fahey in one word it would be “fierce”. She’s a fierce coach and competitor and she always pushes us to be our best every day. She is an amazing head coach and has really helped to build up our program.
Q: Who is the funniest girl on the team?
Davis: It’s a tie between my room mates Aly Kovach and Amanda Maletich they are hilarious.

Q: Where is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Davis: My favorite spot on campus would be the business building. It’s a great study spot.
Q: Do you have a favorite spot in Bowling Green?
Davis: I love going to Juniper here at BG. It is the cutest place to study, and I love their coffee.

Q: Where is the coolest place you have traveled?
Davis: I’ve been camping at Acadia National Park before in Maine and it was beautiful.
Q: What emoji do you use most often?
Davis: I use the “face with tears of joy” emoji every day.
