Falcon freshman hit .545 last weekend in Evansville
CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) – Bowling Green State University softball freshman Katie Hutter has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 28).
Hutter earns the honor for the first time in her young Falcon career.
A native of Mount Pleasant, Pa. (Mount Pleasant H.S.), Hutter had a stellar weekend at the plate, hitting .545 with a 1.000 slugging percentage at the Aces Home Tournament #2, hosted by Evansville. She reached base 10 times in 17 plate appearances, with six hits and four walks.
Hutter went 2-for-2 with a run and four RBI, the highest total of her young career, on Sunday vs. host UE. She walked in that game, and hit her first collegiate homer.
That performance came after she went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a sac fly and two RBI in a win over St. Thomas on Saturday evening. Hutter also doubled in BG's first meeting with Evansville, and she went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases in the first meeting (also a win) with St. Thomas.
Hutter was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts over the weekend, and also led the Falcons with six RBI at the tournament.
BGSU, 5-9 on the young season, heads to Auburn, Ala., this weekend, for five games in the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament.
