Fonseca Wins Ninth Singles Match as RedHawks Take Friday Tilt

Freshman leads Falcons in singles victories, has won seven of her last eight matches

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (6-8, 0-2 MAC) dropped their Friday afternoon match to the Miami (OH) RedHawks (7-9, 1-1 MAC) by a score of 6-1. Leticia Fonseca notched her team-best ninth singles win of the spring, taking a thrilling three-set win at No. 5. She dropped her opening set to Jutte Van Hansewyck, 2-6, but responded with a 6-3 win in set two. In the tiebreak set, the freshman outlasted her foe for a 10-8 win. Fonseca has won seven of her last eight singles matches, with this marking her second victory at No. 5. At No. 3, Hannah Neuman also had a three-set battle, winning 6-2 in the opening set before dropping two close sets to Emilia Valentinsson.

Miami won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 3, Ioanna Tsadari and Diana Ivanikhina played together for the first time in their careers. They nearly defeated the duo of Makensie Long and Sarah Dev, but the RedHawks made a late push to win, 7-5. Maru Poppe and Leticia Fonseca played at No. 2 for the first time this season and were trailing 6-5 when they abandoned the match.
