Fifth-year Falcon capped off her collegiate career with stellar pitching at NIU
CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) -- Bowling Green State University softball standout Hannah Davies has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday (May 10). Davies earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Davies, a native of Waterford, Mich. (Our Lady of the Lakes), had a stellar weekend, wrapping up her collegiate career with a solid relief appearance and a complete-game win in BG's series at Northern Illinois. In 10 1/3 innings of work, she surrendered a total of just five hits, allowing opponents to hit only .135 against her.
Davies pitched in two of the Falcons' three games at NIU, and had a 1-0 record and an ERA of just 2.03 on the weekend. In the series opener, Davies came on in relief and allowed just one hit in 3 1/3 innings.
Then, in the final game of her collegiate career, she threw a complete-game four-hitter en route to the win in BG's 4-2 triumph. She walked two batters and struck out five in that contest, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. In that win, Davies allowed only two hits and no runs over the final six frames.
Davies ended her BGSU career ranked seventh in school history in career strikeouts per seven innings (5.13).
In the classroom, Davies earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a specialization in biochemistry, graduating in May of 2022 with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.791. She is currently in BGSU's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.896.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete each week. Nominees must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must have performed well during the previous week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
