Falcons See Multiple Personal Records in Weekend Split

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The men's and women's cross country teams competed in separate meets with the men taking part in the Louisville Classic while the women competed in the Paul Short Run.
Womens 6K Event
The women's race saw the team make late pushes to improve their spot in the final results, placing 26th out of a competitive 44 team field with a tally of 674 points. Kailee Perry and Kylee Cubbison led the way once again for the Falcons as they have done so throughout the first three meets of the 2023 campaign. The team also saw a flurry of finishes in grouping with pairs such as Elise Johnson and Kristin Groppe, Lillian Katsaras and Emma Hellwege, as well as Izzy Best and Rachael Withrow all finishing closely in the field.

Men's 8K Event
The men's race included over 378 athletes across 39 schools with the Falcons recording a team score of 997. Heriberto Alvarez led the Falcons throughout the 4k mark, however, a second half push from Anthony Sweet saw the junior transfer finish first among the Falcons, marking the first time that Alvarez did not lead the team across the finish line. The meet was highlighted by the five personal records that were set by Anthony Sweet, Christian Gagliardi, Ben Myers, Micah Bentley, and Luke Woolard. The young talent on the team emerged throughout the Saturday morning results as three of the five Falcons who set personal records were freshman. Of the multiple personal records, Sweet saw the largest improvement. The junior previously held an 8k personal best of 26:13.3 that was recorded at the Mel Brodt Open just two weeks earlier, improving his personal record by just over a minute this weekend.

The Falcons return to action when they host the Falcon Invite on October 13th at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course. The men's race is set to begin at 4:30pm with the women's race starting shortly after.

- Kylee Cubbison, Regina Rose, and Katerina Shuble followed with times of 21:40.4 (90th) and 21:58.5 (130th), and 22:08.6 (150th), respectively.
- Elise Johnson and Kristin Groppe finish within five places with times of 22:58.9 (259th) and 23:00.7 (264th).
- Lillian Katsaras and Emma Hellwege finish within a second of each other at 23:14 (290th) and 23:14.9 (291st).
- Izzy Best and Rachael Withrow round out the Falcons with times of 23:19.1 (298th) and 23:27.8 (314th).

- Christian Gagliardi sets a PR with a time of 26:09.7 (264th).
- Mike Worboy, Ben Myers, Micah Bentley, and AJ Haffa finished at 26:23.1 (282nd), 26:24.5 (284th), 26:29 (289th), and 26:34.6 (300th), respectively with Ben Myers and Micah Bentley setting personal records.
- Luke Woolard adds to the list of Falcons that set a PR with a time of 27:27.9 (360th).
- Hunter Sidle brings it home for the Falcons at 28:20.4 (369th).
