Otten Records First Triple-Double As Falcons Fall In Four To Colorado State

Otten Becomes Just Second Freshman, 11th Player This Season With Triple-Double
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team battled the Colorado State Rams on Thursday (Sept. 7) at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. Colorado State took the first set, but the Falcons responded by winning the second set 25-21 behind a .324 team hitting percentage. The Rams moved back ahead with a third set win before the fourth set went to 31 points with CSU taking it 31-29 after a back-and-forth battle to take the match 3-1.
Amanda Otten paced the Falcons, leading the team in kills, digs and aces while logging her first triple-double with Bowling Green. Otten is just the second freshman in the nation with a triple-double so far this season. She added a .355 hitting percentage to her stat line as well. Lauryn Hovey (11), Jessica Andrews (9) and Mia Tyler (8) followed in kills while Alexis Mettille finished with a .556 hitting percentage with five kills on nine attempts.

The Falcons will continue the tournament in Fort Collins over the next two days, facing Pacific on Friday (Sept. 8) with a 5 p.m. EST start and Baylor on Saturday (Sept. 9) at 1 p.m. EST. The Falcons will then return home on Sept. 15 to host Michigan as BGSU attempts to break the program's attendance record in the Stroh Center with 3,000 fans #BGVB3K.

How It Happened
Set 1: Colorado State 25, Bowling Green 19
- Colorado State came out firing against the Falcons, landing the first five points of the match to force a quick BGSU timeout, trailing 5-0.
- The Rams continued their rally through the timeout, adding four more points to take a 9-0 lead before the first Bowling Green point.
- The Orange and Brown soon battled back, utilizing a 5-0 run to cut into the Colorado State lead, 13-8, with Benedetta Marcon behind the service line. The fifth point of the run was Marcon's first career ace and forced a timeout from the Rams.
- Colorado State recorded the first point out of the timeout, but the Falcons resumed their run with four more points, this time with Jessica Andrews serving, going on a 9-1 stretch in total to narrow the gap to 14-12.
- The Rams were able to stay in front and add to their lead, going up 20-16 before the next stoppage, coming via BGSU timeout.
- Colorado State was able to maintain their lead, taking the first set 25-19.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Colorado State 21
- Bowling Green put together an early run in the second set, going on a 4-0 burst to take a 6-2 lead.
- Colorado State worked to close the gap, using a 3-0 run to make the score 10-9 and force a BGSU timeout.
- The Rams registered the next point to tie it up at 10-10, having ties at 12-12, 13-13, 14-14 and 15-15 before back-to-back CSU points put them ahead 17-15, but a 3-0 BGSU run pushed the Falcons ahead 18-17.
- Out of the timeout, Colorado State tallied two points to move ahead 19-18, but Bowling Green tied it up at 19-19, starting another run of ties coming at 20-20 and 21-21.
- The Falcons broke the string of ties with back-to-back points to go up 23-21, forcing the Rams to burn their second timeout of the set.
- BGSU carried the run through the timeout, closing out the set with a 4-0 stretch to take it with a 25-21 score, tying the match.
Set 3: Colorado State 25, Bowling Green 14
- Colorado State jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on the back of a 4-0 run, forcing a timeout from the BGSU bench.
- The lead for the Rams stretched to 13-4 with the Falcons using their second timeout to pause the action.
- Lauryn Hovey led a charge for the Falcons, landing a kill followed by two aces for a 3-0 burst, helping to cut the lead to 14-9.
- Colorado State rallied back with a 4-0 run to push their advantage to 19-10.
- The Rams stayed in front, taking the third set 25-14 to reclaim their lead in the match.
Set 4: Colorado State 31, Bowling Green 29
- In the fourth set, the Rams used two early 3-0 runs to take a 9-3 lead in the set. BGSU battled back with a 3-0 run of their own to close the gap to 10-7.
- Colorado State extended their lead to 17-12, forcing Bowling Green to use their first timeout of the set.
- Out of the timeout, the Falcons tallied four of the next five points, trimming the CSU lead to 18-16 with the Rams taking a timeout.
- Colorado State landed the first point out of the timeout, but the Falcons scored the next four to move ahead 20-19, forcing the second Rams' timeout.
- CSU worked their way back, sticking with the Falcons before tying it up at 23-23 with BGSU taking their second timeout of the set.
- From there the ties returned, going into extra points for the set. The back-and-forth battle took the set deep into extra points with Colorado State holding on, 31-29.

- Amanda Otten recorded her first collegiate triple-double, reaching the milestone early in the third set. Otten finished with a team-high 17 kills, team-high 11 digs and 13 assists while also leading the team in aces with three. The triple-double is the first for the Falcons this season and the 11th in the NCAA. Otten is the seventh player in the nation to record a triple-double this season and just the second freshman, joining Coastal Carolina's Jalyn Stout. The totals for Otten in kills (17), digs (11) and aces (3) all marked career-highs as well.
- Hannah Best earned the start for the Falcons, making her season debut. Best finished with a career-high four kills while matching her career-high for digs with six.
- Jessica Andrews matched a trio of season-highs, landing nine kills and an ace while logging three digs.
- Alexis Mettille landed a season-best five kills on nine attacks for a team-high .556 attack percentage.
- Benedetta Marcon landed her first ace with the Falcons during the match, coming in the first set.
