BGVB To Face All Three Opponents For First Time During Tomic Era
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will play their third and final regular season tournament this weekend, heading to Fort Collins, Colo. for the Colorado State Tournament. The Falcons will begin the slate of matches on Thursday (Sept. 7) against host Colorado State, scheduled for a 9 p.m. EST start. BGSU will then take on Pacific on Friday (Sept. 8) at 5 p.m. EST before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday (Sept. 9) against No. 14 Baylor for a 1 p.m. EST first serve. This will be the first time BGSU has faced each team during the Coach Tomic Era.
Scouting Colorado State
Colorado State has played a tough schedule so far this season, taking on three ranked teams. The Rams topped No. 10 Kentucky in their home opener, 3-1, before falling short to No. 3 Stanford on their home court by the same score. The ranked opponents wrapped up with No. 21 Arkansas, going five sets with the Razorbacks on their home floor, but coming up short in the 3-2 final.
The meeting between Bowling Green and Colorado State will be just the third all-time between the teams. The previous two matches have gone to the Rams, holding a 2-0 record in the series. The last meeting came in 2010 in Gainesville, Fla. with Colorado State claiming a 3-0 final. The first meeting is the only trip to Fort Collins for BGSU, facing the Rams in 1999 with CSU taking that match, 3-0.
Scouting Pacific
Pacific's first match at the tournament will be against Bowling Green, entering the weekend riding a four-match win streak. The Tigers picked up the first win of their 2023 season against UC Davis, 3-1, before rattling off three 3-0 sweeps last weekend, topping Nevada, Seattle and Eastern Washington. Outside hitter Biamba Kabengele led the way, earning WCC Player of the Week honors with 33 kills.
The meeting between Bowling Green and Pacific will be the first all-time between the two programs. Pacific is the second new opponent for BGSU this season, previously adding ETSU to the list. The Tigers will be the 235th unique regular season opponent during the history of BGSU volleyball, dating back to 1976.
Scouting Baylor
The Baylor Bears currently have played just three matches, all against ranked opponents, and will play SMU on Wednesday (Sept. 6) before heading to Colorado State. In their matches so far, Baylor fell to No. 2 Wisconsin, 3-1, and No. 7 Minnesota, 3-0. However, they picked up their first win of the season by besting No. 18 Rice by a score of 3-1 in their home opener.
Bowling Green and Baylor's match will mark just the second all-time between the two teams with both being neutral site matches. The Orange and Brown previously faced the Bears during the 1995 campaign, picking up a 3-0 victory over Baylor to hold a 1-0 record in the all-time series.
Daily Double-Double
