BGSU Hosting Black Out At The Stroh

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will look to extend their home winning streak to eight on Tuesday (Jan. 23) as they host the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Falcons and Golden Flashes are set for a 7 p.m. tip inside the Stroh Center. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with a radio stream available through WFRO Eagle 99.

Opening Tip
The Falcons and Golden Flashes will be meeting for the 172nd time in program history, the second-longest rivalry in program history. Kent State has won the last eight meetings, but the Falcons hold the all-time advantage with a record of 89-82 in the series. Entering the game, the Falcons boast the second-best defense in the MAC (69.8 points per game) while the Golden Flashes hold the third-best offense (77.8).

At The Game
Tuesday's game will be a Black Out at the Stroh Center. Fans are asked to participate by wearing black to the game. The first 500 students will receive a black "Straight Out Ziggyville" shirt.

A Bowling Green Win Would…

Make Coach Simon the first BGSU coach all-time to start MAC play 6-1 in their first season.
Move BGSU to 15-4, the best record through 19 games since the 2001-02 season (15-4).
Push BGSU to 6-1 in the MAC, the best record through seven MAC games since 2020-21 (6-1).
Give the Falcons eight-straight wins at home, the longest streak since winning 11 straight at the Stroh in 2018-19.
Make Bowling Green winners in 13 of their last 14, the best stretch since 2001-02 (13 of 14).

Scouting The Golden Flashes
Kent State enters Tuesday's contest with a 2-4 MAC standing after nearly upsetting rival Akron. The Golden Flashes currently hold the third-highest scoring offense in the MAC, averaging 77.8 points per game. The unit is led by Jalen Sullinger (14.3) and Chris Payton Jr. (14.1). KSU is also tied for the MAC-lead in steals per game, tying Toledo, with a team mark of 7.22. The team has six players with 10 or more steals this year, paced by Giovanni Santiago with 25 and averaging 1.4 per game, tied for fourth in the conference. Additionally, Payton is fourth in the MAC for rebounds per game (8.1).

BGSU v. Kent State, A History
Bowling Green and Kent State will be meeting for the 172nd time in program history, the second-longest rivalry for the Falcons. The Golden Flashes are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak in the series, their longest all-time, but BGSU still maintains the all-time record with an 89-82 standing. The last win in the series for the Falcons came on March 1, 2019, the second of two straight BGSU wins over KSU during the 2018-19 season.

Agee's Double-Doubles
Over the last 10 games, Rashaun Agee has tallied seven double-doubles for the Falcons, working his way up to a tie for 30th in the nation. He's also finished a rebound shy of two more double-doubles during the 10-game stretch. Over the last 10 games, Agee is averaging 15.3 points per game, including two 20-point games, as well as 11.1 rebounds per game. He's also tallied 15 assists and five steals during the span.

Double-Digit Scoring Outputs
The Falcons entered the 2023-24 season with 14 players on the roster. Thus far, 13 have logged minutes for the Orange and Brown. Of the 13 players that have seen the floor, 11 have finished with double-digit points in at least one game, accounting for 84% of the players that have played in a game for the Falcons. EJay Greer was the most recent to join the list, finishing with a career-high 12 points off the bench in the last game for BGSU.

Falcons At The Free Throw Line
In five of the last six games, the Falcons have made it to the free line at least 20 times and have made it 30+ times in three of those games. During the last six games Bowling Green is averaging 27.7 free throw attempts per game, an increase from the season's 22.9 average. The season-mark is now ranked 44th in the nation and sits atop the MAC. Marcus Hill has led the charge with 123 trips to the line, leading the MAC and tied for 22nd in the nation.

High-Powered Offense Coming To Life
During conference play, the Falcons have posted the highest-scoring offense in the MAC averaging 81.2 points per game. The mark makes BGSU one of two MAC teams averaging 80+ in MAC play. Additionally, during the conference schedule the Falcons are averaging the most offensive rebounds in the MAC with a mark of 12.5. The Falcons are also leading the MAC in free throws attempted during MAC play with 166, 28 more than the next team on the list.
