Falcons Fall To Ohio State In Sellout Slater Crowd

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green Falcons (7-16-0, 5-7-0 CCHA) fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes (8-8-4, 0-8-2 B1G) on Saturday night by a score of 2-4 in a sellout crowd in Slater Family Ice Arena. The Falcons lead early in the game, Spencer Kersten scored the first goal of the night and the Buckeyes responded not soon after to end the first period 1-1. Ohio State started the scoring in the second period and Dalton Norris responded on power-play goal, to then end the second period 2-2. The Buckeyes scored the game-winning goal late in the third and secured it with an empty-net goal with 30 seconds left in the third period.

Bowling Green Hockey will take a break and be back in action Friday, January 19 when they resume CCHA play. The Falcons will host Minnesota State in Slater Family Ice Arena for a weekend series, Friday will begin at 7:07 p.m. and will be Faculty/Staff/Adult Hockey League Night. Saturday, January 20 puck drop is at 7:07 p.m. and will serve as Pro Wrestling Night. Tickets are still available HERE.

Scoring Plays
- Spencer Kersten scored the first goal of the night at 16:08 in the first period. Tommy Pasanen started the power-play sequence with a pass above the right face-off circle to Ethan Scardina who deflected it to Kersten on the goal circle for the power-play goal 1-0.
- Cam Thiesing responded at 12:56 in the first period on a power-play. Thiesing redirected a pass that he received from the top the point, and shot it past Stoever to tie that game up at one in the first period.
- Scooter Brickey scored the Buckeyes first lead of the game at 4:05 in the second period. Brickey shot the puck a little above the right face-off circle and shot it into the back of the net.
- Stephen Halliday took the puck behind the net and passed the it up to the point, to Scooter Brickey. Brickey shot the puck past Moore for a 3-1 lead at 31.6 seconds.
- Dalton Norris tied the game back up at 2:02 in the second period. Norris scored on a 5-3 power-play advantage, receiving the puck from Nodler right above the goal circle and had one hit to the puck that made it past the Buckeye goaltender for a 2-2 score.
- Joe Dunlap regained the lead for the Buckeyes at 14:30 in the third period. Dunlap found the puck open in front of Stoever, shot once and regained possession to then back-hand it into the back of the net for 3-2 lead.
- Patrick Guzzo cleared the puck out of the Falcons zone at 32.0 in the third period and it found it's way down the ice and into the empty-net goal for a 4-2 final score.
- Spencer Kersten scored his seventh goal in the Orange and Brown and his 21st career goal. Kersten's goal also tallied as his second power-play goal and fourth career.
- Ethan Scardina tallied an assist on the Kersten goal, which recorded his third on the season and 16th career. Tommy Pasanen had the second assist and that tallied as his fourth as a Falcon and 12th career.
- Dalton Norris tallied the second goal for the Falcons, which was his third of the season and fifth career. Norris's goal was his first goal since October 14 at Augustana, in his second game for the Falcons. Â The goal was also on a power-play, being his second PPG of the season and fourth all-time.
- Josh Nodler recorded the first assist on the Norris goal, being his eighth in the Orange and Brown and 32nd career. Eric Parker was rewarded the second assist and that tallies as his sixth this season and 24th career.
