BGSU Drops First Game of Series at In-State Rival #19/17 Ohio State, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (3-2-0) lost a close game to the Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0-1), 3-1. In the defeat, freshman Maxwell Martin tailed his first collegiate goal in the third period.

How it Happened
• The Buckeyes got on the board first with over 7 minutes left in the first period.
• The Scarlet and Gray were able to extend their lead to 2-0 on a power play at 16:48 in the first period after freshman Adam Zlnka was sent to the box for tripping.
• Through one period, both teams were tied in the face-off dot with eight wins for each squad.
• Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, though the Falcons were able to find some chances early in the frame.
• At the end of the second, the Falcons were able to draw a power play that would extend into the third period.
• 15 seconds into the final frame, sophomore Ben Doran found the back of the net on a batted in puck, but the goal was called back due to the net being dislodged.
• Shortly later, at 2:08 in the third, freshman Maxwell Martin found the back of the net. Martin drove into the zone on the right-hand side with the puck before passing to Doran who found Martin right back. Martin from the right-hand dot took a beautiful backhand shot that found the bottom left-hand corner to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
• The Falcons had chances throughout the third to tie the game at two; with seven minutes left, junior Brett Pfoh dangled through two Ohio State defenders but was ultimately unable to get past the goalie.
• The Buckeyes were able to score one more in the final frame to regain the two-goal lead to make it 3-1.
