Meet Preview: Falcons Travel To Rubber City For MAC Opener
October 31, 2024 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The BGSU swim & dive team will hit the road east to Akron and compete against the Zips in a dual meet on Friday, November 1 at 6 p.m. at the Ocasek Natatorium. The competition marks the first MAC meet of the season for the Falcons.Â
Bowling Green is coming off a dominant quad meet win over Canisius, Siena and Rochester two weeks ago in Buffalo. The Falcons won 15 of the 16 events and were led by Emily McNicol, who won the 100 and 200 backstroke while also competing on the winning 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay squads. Diver Natalia Mayorga also earned an NCAA Diving Zones cut with her one-meter score in the meet.
BGSU will be facing a dominant Akron team who has won 10 of the last 11 MAC Championships. The Zips were picked to finish first in the conference again and are led by two-time MAC Swimmer of the Year Abby Daniel along with NCAA qualifier and All-MAC first teamer Madelyn Gatrall. Akron won their own Zips Classic at the beginning of the season and then lost a highly-competitive tri-meet at Ohio State the following week against the Buckeyes (L, 74-224) and Kentucky (L, 127.5-172.5). Eight-time MAC Swimming Coach of the Year Brian Peresie leads Akron in his 11th season at the helm.Â
The Ocasek Natatorium also holds a special place for BGSU head coach Tanner Barton, who won six of his eight Ohio Athletic Conference swim & dive championships (three men's and three women's) there as the leader of the John Carroll University programs from 2020-24.Â
