
BGSU Hockey Picks Up Two Points in First Shootout of the Season Against St.Thomas

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Bowling Green Falcons (5-3-1, CCHA 2-0-1) earned a pair of CCHA points with a shootout victory over the St. Thomas Tommies (2-5-3, 1-2-2). Both teams found the back of the net twice through regulation and were unable to find the winner in overtime. The Falcons were able to win in the shootout with Brody Waters and Jack Blake each scoring, while Cole Moore stopped 4 of 5 shots he faced.
In the win, sophomore Breck McKinley and junior Jack Blake found the back of the net for the first time in their careers. The Falcons also recorded their first penalty shot attempt since Nov. 4, 2022, with junior Brett Pfoh earning the Falcons first goal of the night.

- Both teams recorded early penalties to start the game 4 on 4, but neither team converted. Early in the first period, senior Ryan O'Hara had a breakaway but was saved by the St. Thomas goalie.
- A minute later, St. Thomas was able to break through and tap in a loose puck in front of the net to take the early lead, 1-0.
- BGSU was able to find the back of the net after Brett Pfoh earned a penalty shot after being slashed on a breakaway. Pfoh was able to slide the puck through the five hole to tie the game, 1-1.
- With 1:01 left in the first period, BGSU went on the penalty kill and started the second down a player. The Tommies were able to convert under a minute into the period to regain the lead, 2-1.
- The Falcons had many opportunities through the second period but were unable to find the back of the net and led 10-9 on the shots on goal advantage in the period. Through two periods, both teams had 10 combined penalties.
- Halfway through the third period, St. Thomas went to the box on a five-minute major penalty. With less than a minute left on the advantage, O'Hara passed the puck to McKinley at the point who fired a slapshot past the Tommies defender for the first of his career.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the rest of the third period and in the five minutes of overtime to force a shootout.
