BGSU-Weber State Comes Down To Final Shot As Falcons Fall In 73-70 Final

Bowling Green Set To Take On New Mexico State Saturday At 2 p.m. EST
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team took Weber State down to the final seconds on Friday (Nov. 29) to open play at the Arizona Tip-Off. Bowling Green and Weber State battled back-and-forth in the first half with the Falcons taking a 43-40 lead into halftime. The lead grew to 54-44 for the Falcons in the second half, but the Wildcats narrowed the gap, taking a 71-70 lead with 28 seconds left. Bowling Green got a look, but was unable to convert, rolling into a 73-70 final. The Falcons will transition to face New Mexico State on Saturday as their second game at the Arizona Tip-Off, scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Weber State started the scoring with an and-one, but the Falcons answered back with triples from Marcus Johnson and Derrick Butler for a 6-0 BGSU burst and 6-3 lead.
- The runs swung back to Weber State with the Wildcats going on a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead at 12-6.
- Johnson ended the run for the Falcons with a layup, sending the teams to the first media timeout with a 12-8 score in favor of WSU.
- Out of the break, Weber State added three followed by a Butler layup for the Falcons. Jamai Felt converted a tip-in layup to make it a one-score game at 15-12.
- Each team added a pair of free throws to their score with Bowling Green's coming from Javontae Campbell, pushing the score to 17-14.
- The back-and-forth continued with Felt getting a layup to go after a block by Campbell on the defensive end, making it a 21-16 score at the under-12 media timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Butler tacked on three more free throws for the Falcons, bringing the score to a two-point game at 21-19.
- Two free throws extended the Wildcat lead, but a four-point play by Wilguens Jr. Exacte tied the game up at 23-23.
- Weber State pushed back in front with an and-one. A layup by Braelon Green pulled the Falcons back within one, but a 5-0 WSU run made it a 31-25 score at the under-8 break.
- The Wildcats converted a layup before a 7-0 burst by the Falcons. A Butler layup started the run followed by two Campbell free throws and a Squire three, cutting the score to 33-32.
- The two teams traded layups with Campbell and Green making two for BGSU, bringing the score to 37-36 at the final media timeout of the first half.
- After the timeout, Exacte added two free throws to put the Falcons in front, 38-37. Weber State moved back in front with a three, but two Green free throws tied it up at 40-40.
- Another Green free throw later in the half put the Falcons in front. He added a jumper before the halftime buzzer, taking a 43-40 lead into halftime.
- Campbell started the second-half scoring with a layup for the Falcons. Johnson added another for a quick 4-0 BGSU burst and 47-40 lead before the first Weber State points of the half.
- Johnson added a free throw for the Falcons followed by a Campbell layup, making it a 7-2 run to start the second half for Bowling Green. Weber State added a bucket for a 50-44 score at the first media timeout of the second half.
- Out of the break, Felt got a layup for the Falcons to fall followed by one for Butler, granting Bowling Green a double-digit lead at 54-44.
- Two Wildcat free throws ended the run for the Falcons, starting an 8-0 run for Weber State that closed the gap to a one-possession game at 54-52 at the under-12 media timeout. WSU added a free throw after the break for a 9-0 run and 54-53 score.
- Trey Thomas ended the run with a three for the Falcons, but Weber State responded with a layup. Green added a BGSU free throw for a 58-55 tally.
- Weber State pulled within one with a dunk, but another Thomas triple extended the lead for BGSU again. The teams traded layups with BGSU's coming from Thomas for a 63-59 score.
- The Wildcats put together a 5-0 burst to reclaim the lead at 64-63 going into the under-8 media timeout. The run for Weber State continued to 7-0 with a 66-63 lead at the under-4 timeout.
- After the under-4 timeout, the Wildcats added a free throw for an 8-0 run and 67-63 score. Campbell ended the run with a layup for BGSU.
- Campbell's bucket started a back-and-forth. Butler answered a WSU layup with one of his own to stay within a possession, 69-67. Butler added two free throws to tie the score at 69-69.
- Campbell sank a free throw to put the Falcons in front, 70-69, but a Weber State layup swung the score back to them, 71-70.
- Weber State added two late free throws for the 73-70 final.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Derrick Butler led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points, playing all 40 minutes of the game. Butler has twice tied for the team lead in points, but this is his first time leading the team in scoring solely. Of Butler's 16 points, five came at the free throw line, going a perfect 5-of-5, season-highs in both.
- Butler added a season-high five rebounds in the game, hauling in two on the offensive end and three on the defensive.
- Javontae Campbell registered two more steals, giving him 18 on the season. Campbell now has two or more steals in every game this season.
- Campbell added 13 points, registering double-digit point totals in six of BGSU's first seven games, the most by any player on the roster.
- Braelon Green added 10 points for the Falcons, going 4-for-5 at the free throw line while adding three rebounds and two assists to his stat line.
- Jamai Felt led the Falcons in rebounds with seven in just 11 minutes of action. Felt tallied four of his rebounds on the offensive end. He also was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for a career-high six points.
- Wilguens Jr. Exacte made his first start with the Falcons, finishing the game with a season-high six points and three rebounds.
