Fourth-Place Falcons To Host Third-Place Chippewas Saturday At Stroh

BGSU, CMU Set For 5 p.m. Tip
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team returns home to the Stroh Center on Saturday (Feb. 3) for the first of two straight home games. The Falcons will be hosting the Central Michigan Chippewas for a 5 p.m. tip at the Stroh Center. Bowling Green enters fourth in the MAC standings with Central Michigan third and just one game separating the two teams. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with a radio stream available through WFRO Eagle 99.
Opening Tip
The Falcons and Chippewas will be meeting for the 87th time in program history with BGSU leading the series, 45-41. This will mark head coach Todd Simon's first time facing his alma mater in conference play. He previously faced them twice while at the helm of Southern Utah.The matchup will feature BGSU's offense, which is second in the MAC during conference play (80.4 points per game) against CMU's defense, second in the MAC during conference play (65.4).

Scouting The Chippewas
Central Michigan enters Saturday with one of the better defenses during MAC play. CMU has the second-ranked defense, giving up 65.4 points per game. They have also posted the best defense in terms of field goal percentage (39.8%) as well as three-point percentage (27.4%). CMU has won four straight games as well as seven of their last eight, but their last win came down to the wire. The Chippewas went into double overtime against Northern Illinois on Tuesday (Jan. 30) at home, escaping with an 84-77 win over the Huskies. CMU's conference losses have been to Buffalo and Ohio.

Bowling Green and Central Michigan will be meeting for the 87th time in program history with the Falcons leading the all-time series 45-41. When hosting the series, BGSU holds a record of 25-16, but the last meeting in the Stroh went to CMU in a close 77-74 final. The last 10 meetings have been close with each team winning five and neither team winning more than two consecutively. Two games in the last 10 have also gone to overtime.
Top Rebounding Matchup
During MAC play, the Falcons and Chippewas have been two of the best teams in the conference in rebounding. BGSU clocks in at second on the list, averaging 37.2 rebounds against MAC opponents. Central Michigan follows in third with an average of 36.1. The Falcons are currently second in offensive rebounds with a mark of 11.8, but Central Michigan leads the way in defensive rebounds with 26.9 per game.
Hill Enters Nation's Top 15
In his first season at the Division I level, Marcus Hill has put together a strong season that has put him in the top 15 for a few national stats. After making 12-straight field goals against Ball State and 13 total, Hill is now eighth in the nation for field goals attempted (349) and tied for eighth for field goals made (159). He's in a similar spot for points, leading the MAC in both total points and points per game. His 21.2 points per game are 11th in the nation and his 446 total points are 13th.
Defense Showing Up Strong
Defense has proved to be a strong component for the Falcons this season. When holding teams under 80 points, BGSU is 14-1 this season, but are 1-5 when allowing teams to score at least 80. Similarly, the Falcons are 14-3 when holding teams under 50% from the field and 11-1 when posting a better field goal percentage than their opponent. BGSU is also 12-0 when leading with five minutes left in the game and 13-0 when leading with two minutes left.
