Falcon Friday Brings Senior Night to Cooper Pool

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team is set to compete twice this weekend. The Falcons are slated for two tri-meets this weekend on Friday and Saturday against Toledo with Buffalo. The Friday tri-meet will be the Falcons' Senior Night with the meet starting at 5:30 p.m. and senior recognition taking place during the middle of the meet.
Battle of I-75 Parts Two and Three
The Falcons are looking for revenge after the first chapter of this season's Battle of I-75. The Falcons fell to the Rockets by a score of 158.5 and 141.5. The Falcons were led by their Backstroke swimmers that day. The Orange and Brown came away from the meet with wins in both the 100 and 200 events. Emily McNicol captured an event win in the 100 with a time of 56.95 while fellow Falcon Morgan Sokol took home gold in the 200 event thanks to a time of 2:05.82.
Featured Falcons
The last time in the pool for the Falcons they went up against MAC foe Eastern Michigan. The Falcons were led by high flyer Grace Ellis in the diving portion of the night. Ellis won the 1-Meter diving with a score of 293.48. That score was good for a lifetime best for Ellis and to qualify for diving zones in March. Ellis wasn't the only senior to show out on the weekend. Captains Ava Vial and Gabby Vitela both left Ypsilanti with event wins. Vial won the 400 IM after finishing second in the 200 Butterfly. Vitela won the first solo event on the night in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 17:20.99. This was Vitela's first event win of the season.
Sophomore standout Emily McNicol added another event win to her team lead against the Eagles. McNicol snatched yet another victory in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 56.89.
Preview of Competition
The University of Toledo Rockets sit at 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in MAC Conference play. The Rockets have bested the Falcons in head-to-head play and at Cleveland State's Magnus Cup, beating the Falcons by 78.5 points over three days of competition.
The Bulls are in a similar boat as the Falcons going 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
Senior Night Recognition
The Falcons will be recognizing 11 seniors on Friday night. The recognition of the seniors will take place during the middle of the meet.
