Falcons' Comeback Effort Halted Late Against EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team nearly completed the comeback against Eastern Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 17) in Ypsilanti. The Falcons closed the gap to three halfway through the second half and again to four with under two minutes to play, but the EMU Eagles were able to pull back ahead for the 69-60 final.
Marcus Hill led the way for the Falcons, registering 19 points for the Orange and Brown, including a team-high six free throws made. Trey Thomas followed on the stat sheet with 13, including three triples. On the boards, Rashaun Agee recorded a team-leading 13 rebounds for the Orange and Brown.

The Falcons will stay on the road for their next contest, traveling to Mount Pleasant to take on Central Michigan Tuesday (Feb. 20). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip. BGSU will then return home on Feb. 23 to host the Battle of I-75 on ESPNU.

Marcus Hill led the way for the Falcons, registering 19 points for the Orange and Brown, including a team-high six free throws made. Trey Thomas followed on the stat sheet with 13, including three triples. On the boards, Rashaun Agee recorded a team-leading 13 rebounds for the Orange and Brown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rashaun Agee came out of the gates fast for the Falcons, winning the opening tip. Agee followed with the first points of the game with a layup and a block of the defensive end.
- EMU added a bucket before Jason Spurgin joined the scoring column with a hook shot in the paint. A three for Eastern Michigan followed for a 5-4 EMU lead.
- The two teams began trading triples with Trey Thomas hitting one for BGSU followed by one for the Eagles. A free throw from Thomas tied the score at 8-8.
- The barrage of threes continued for EMU to reclaim the lead at 11-8 before a jumper made it a 5-0 EMU run and 13-8 advantage at the media timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Agee added a free throw for the Falcons, but a 9-0 burst for EMU pushed their lead to 22-9 at the under-12 media timeout.
- Marcus Hill converted an and-one opportunity after the timeout to end the EMU run and bring the score to 22-12.
- A free throw for Eastern Michigan added one to their score before another Hill layup for the Falcons to cut the score down to single digits. A basket for the Eagles made it a 25-14 score at the under-8 media timeout.
- Spurgin bolstered his stat line with a second-chance bucket out of the media break, but EMU answered. Hill added two at the line for BGSU for a 27-18 score.
- The Falcons continued to chip away with a corner three from Da'Shawn Phillip. EMU made a jumper before Hill went to the line again, hitting one for a 29-22 tally. Eastern Michigan made a layup before the media timeout to give the Eagles a 31-22 lead at the final media timeout of the first half.
- Spurgin threw down a dunk for the Orange and Brown after the timeout. EMU responded with a jumper before BGSU used their first half use-it-or-lose-it timeout. The two teams went to the half with the score at 33-24 EMU.
- The Falcons started the second half with the ball. Agee drew a foul and made a free throw, but EMU responded with a 7-0 run to move their lead to 40-25. The Eastern Michigan run ended with a fast break layup for Phillip to bring the score to 40-27.
- After a media timeout, Hill and EJay Greer made back-to-back layups for the Falcons for a 6-0 BGSU run.
- EMU made a transition layup before Thomas connected for another three. Thomas followed it up with an and-one for a 6-0 run on his own and a 12-2 BGSU stretch and a score of 42-37.
- The Eagles added to their lead, getting it back up to 47-37, but Agee made a layup for a 47-39 score at the under-12 media break. Hill added a free throw after the timeout for a 47-40 tally.
- Hill spun through the traffic of the EMU defense for a layup and 5-0 BGSU burst. EMU hit a shot before Hill added a three to make it a 49-45 EMU lead.
- EMU added a basket before Thomas hit a transition three for the Falcons to cut it down to a one-possession game at 51-48.
- The Eagles responded with a 4-0 burst to push their lead back to 55-48 before an Agee layup ahead of the under-8 media timeout.
- Out of the timeout, EMU recorded a 5-0 run to bring the score to 60-50. Hill ended the run with a layup before an Eagles answer in the same fashion.
- EMU added a layup before a Hill free throw and PJ Edwards triple cut into the lead. Another Eastern layup answered to make it a 64-56 score at the final media break.
- Phillip got a layup to fall for Bowling Green with the Falcons calling timeout at 64-58.
- Out of the timeout, Phillip got a steal off the full-court-press and scored to cut into the lead, 64-60 and force an EMU timeout.
- Eastern Michigan made five free throws down the stretch to push the score to 69-60.

- Rashaun Agee finished with a team-high 13 rebounds. This marks the 12th time this season that Agee has tallied double-digit rebounds, but the first time he has done so without a double-double.
- Marcus Hill concluded the game with a team-leading 19 points. Hill missed his 10th consecutive 20-point game by one point, bringing his nine-game streak of 20-point games to a close, the longest streak by any player in the nation this season.
- Trey Thomas hit double-digits points for BGSU as well, finishing with 13. He hit a team-high three triples for the Falcons as well.
- Coming off the bench, EJay Greer registered three assists for Bowling Green, tying for the team lead in the game as well as matching his career-high.
