BGSU v. Kent State, A HistoryÂ
BGSU and Kent State played once earlier this season with the Golden Flashes taking a closely contested game in overtime at the Stroh Center. In the first meeting, Bowling Green was paced by Marcus Hill's 21 points and eight rebounds. Jason Spurgin followed with 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocks while Rashaun Agee recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. The last time BGSU and Kent State met in the MAC Tournament was on March 7, 2016 in Bowling Green with the Falcons claiming a 70-69 win.
Simon's Strong Start
In his first season at the helm of the Falcons, Todd Simon has led Bowling Green to 20 wins, one win away from tying the record for most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. This also marks the first 20-win season for BGSU since 2019-20 and just the ninth during the program's MAC era. Simon is the fourth coach in program history to win a MAC Tournament game in his first season with the Falcons as well.Â
BGSU On The Boards
In the first round against Central Michigan, the Falcons registered 51 team rebounds, just two shy of their season high. This season, BGSU has recorded 50+ rebounds three times with the other two coming against Ohio Dominican (53 on Dec. 10) and Central Michigan (53 on Feb. 20). For the season, the Falcons are averaging 39.5 rebounds in wins.Â
Hill Continues Record Book ClimbÂ
Marcus Hill has put together a historic first season with the Falcons, scoring 650 points in the Orange and Brown. The total has put Hill fifth in program history for points in a single season. He needs 57 points to move past James Darrow (706, 1959-60) for fourth all-time. Hill's point total currently leads the Mid-American Conference and is top 25 in the nation. Meanwhile, his 20.3 points per game rank inside the top 30 in the nation.Â
Agee Enters Record BookÂ
Rashaun Agee entered the Bowling Green record book in the regular season finale for rebounds in a single season and furthered his climb in the first round of the MAC Tournament. Now with 320 rebounds this season, Agee needs just three to pass Cornelius Cash (322, 1973-74) for eighth all-time. Agee's 320 rebounds are currently second in the MAC and top 25 in the country. Additionally, his 3.74 offensive rebounds per game lead the conference and are top 15 in the country.Â
Spurgin Joins 1,000-Point ClubÂ
Jason Spurgin became the second Falcon this season to join the 1,000-point club for his collegiate career, scoring five against Central Michigan to push him past the mark. With Bowling Green, Spurgin has tallied 329 points this season. Before BGSU, he recorded 672 points over three seasons with Southern Utah. Spurgin is also 43 points away from setting a new career-high for points in a season.
