Falcons Fall To Nationally-Ranked Dayton

LaPinta Logs Career-High 18 Digs For Falcons
DAYTON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team took on the No. 22-ranked Dayton Flyers on Saturday (Sept. 7) as part of the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invite hosted by Wright State. The Falcons kept it close in the first two sets, seeing eight ties and five lead changes between the two, but both sets went the way of the Flyers. In the third set, a few key runs pushed Dayton to the 3-0 score. The loss moves BGSU to 1-1 on the weekend and 2-3 on the season. BGSU will finish out the weekend on Sunday (Sept. 8) against host Wright State.

How It Happened
Set 1: Dayton 25, Bowling Green 22
- Lauryn Hovey started the match with a kill for the Falcons, but a 4-0 Dayton run pushed the Flyers in front early, 4-1.
- The Falcons worked to narrow the gap, tying the set at 6-6 before moving in front 7-6 with a 3-0 burst.
- Dayton responded with a 4-0 run, resulting in a Bowling Green timeout. The Falcons ended the run with the first point out of the break.
- The Falcons kept it within a point at 11-10, but a 4-0 stretch in favor of the Flyers pushed the score to 15-10.
- BGSU put together a 3-0 run to close the gap to 17-15 before the teams began trading points to a 21-17 score and a Bowling Green timeout.
- Bowling Green challenged late in the set, but a 25-22 score gave the first set to Dayton.
Set 2: Dayton 25, Bowling Green 20
- The second set began back-and-forth before a 3-0 Bowling Green run extended the advantage to 7-3 Falcons.
- The back-and-forth battle continued into a 15-12 BGSU lead at the media timeout in the set.
- Out of the media break, Bowling Green logged the first point, but Dayton followed with a 4-0 run to tie it up at 16-16 with a BGSU timeout.
- The Falcons remained in front out of the timeout with the teams once again going back-and-forth, but a 5-0 Dayton run pushed them in front 22-19 before closing out the set with a 3-0 run for the 25-20 set score.
Set 3: Dayton 25, Bowling Green 13
- The Falcons jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set, but Dayton worked to tie it up at 3-3 and again at 4-4.
- A 3-0 stretch for Dayton pushed them in front 7-4 in the set. The Falcons tallied a point, but another 3-0 run for the Flyers made it a 6-1 stretch with a 10-5 score.
- The Falcons were able to end the run, but another 3-0 burst for Dayton brought the score to 13-6, forcing a Bowling Green timeout.
- Bowling Green scored the first point out of the break, starting a back-and-forth between the two teams until another BGSU timeout with the score at 17-9.
- The scoring pendulum continued to swing until a 4-0 Dayton burst extended their lead to 23-12. The Falcons added a point, but Dayton closed out the set for the 25-13 set score.

- Alexis Mettille logged a solo block in the match, number 30 of her BGSU career. The mark puts Mettille inside the Top 10 during the program's Rally Scoring Era, tying Corrie Mills (2003-07).
- Lauryn Hovey added two more aces to her weekend total, now with nine on the weekend and 99 for her BGSU career. Hovey is now tied with Petra Indrova for fourth in career aces during the program's Rally Scoring Era. Hovey needs to reach 107 to break into the all-time list.
- Lindsey LaPinta led the Falcons in digs, registering a career-high 18 in the match for the Orange and Brown.
- For the second consecutive match, Jessica Andrews led the Falcons in blocks with five assists in each match.
- Edyta Waclawczyk landed her first career ace for Bowling Green and added the first two blocks of her career as well, both block assists.
