BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The BGSU ice hockey team battled the Beavers of Bemidji State in their home opener on Friday night. The game ended 4-4 after regulation, but the Beavers came out victorious in a shootout to earn the extra point in the CCHA standings. Bowling Green battled from two goals down to secure a point and remain level with the Beavers in the CCHA standings.

How it happened

The Falcons opened the scoring early in the contest, as Quinn Emerson notched his first of the season off a great breakout play and a pass from Breck McKinley.
The Beavers leveled the score just minutes later, as Max Vig buried a loose puck out in front of the net to make the score 1-1 at the first intermission.
Bemidji State's offense got a kickstart in the second period, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the frame to take a 3-1 lead.
Jeremie Minville's first as a Falcon reduced the deficit to one, but the Beavers would strike again just minutes later behind goals from Adam Flammang and Max Namestnikov to restore their two goal advantage going into the final period.
BGSU pushed hard in the final frame, outshooting the Beavers 17-7 in the third.
With five minutes remaining, Jackson Niedermayer walked on to a pass from Quinn Emerson, beating Raythan Robbins to bring the Falcons to within a goal.
Late in the final period with the Falcon net empty, Gustav Stjernberg wired a shot past the Bemidji goaltender off a pass from Dominik Rymon to level the score at four with just over a minute to go and forcing the game to overtime.
The teams played a five minute, 3-on-3 overtime in which neither team was able to generate much offense.
Tyler Palmer came up with a clutch save on Bemidji's Kirklan Irey as time expired in overtime, forcing the game to a shootout.
Bemidji's Adam Flamming buried his shootout opportunity to give the Beavers a 1-0 shootout victory.

The Falcons and Beavers will return to action tomorrow night, as both teams sit level on seven points in the CCHA standings. Puck drop for Saturday's contest is slated for 6:07 pm, and is available to watch live on Midco Sports Plus. Audio from Saturday's game is also available on 88.1 WBGU FM.
