BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green ice hockey team battled the Bemidji State Beavers in their home opening series finale on Saturday night. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period, but two third period goals from the Beavers forced the game into overtime. In the overtime frame, Bemidji escaped with a 3-2 victory off a goal by Hudson Thornton.

How it happened

In similar fashion to Friday night's game, Bowling Green took the lead through Quinn Emerson, who latched on to the rebound from a Breck McKinley shot from the blue line, giving the Falcons the lead just three minutes into the contest.
In the second period, the Falcons doubled their advantage, after Brayden Crampton regained control of his own shot that got blocked, rifling a shot past the goaltender for his second collegiate goal.
The Beavers battled back in a tight third period, beginning with a goal from Oliver Peer, three and a half minutes into the final frame. Peer latched onto a shot from Hudson Thornton that rang off the post, burying a goal on the power play.
Adam Flamming would then tie the game up with nine minutes on the clock, as he walked to the high slot on the power play and wired a shot past Jacob Steinman, who was screened on the play.
Freshman goaltender Jacob Steinman held the Falcons in the game, making 26 saves in the contest, including one with just under a minute remaining, to keep the score tied a two.
The Beavers thought they had won it less than a minute into the overtime period, but the goal was subsequently overturned due to a coaches' challenge for offside that proved successful.
Three minutes into the overtime period, Hudson Thornton wheeled up the ice and fired a shot past Steinman to give the Beavers a 3-2 victory in overtime.
