Preview: Hockey Heads to Niagara for First Regular Season Series
October 09, 2025 | Ice Hockey
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. –The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team will begin its regular season this weekend (Oct. 10-11) as they travel to Niagara University for a non-conference series. Friday's matchup is scheduled to begin at 6 pm, and puck drop for Saturday's tilt is slated for 5 pm.
The Falcons got their first taste of action this past weekend, as they hosted Robert Morris in an exhibition game on Saturday (Oct. 4). BGSU will look to bounce back this weekend, as they dropped the exhibition contest 4-1.
Standout performers in the exhibition included freshman Tanner Scott, who scored the lone goal for the Falcons off a rebounded shot by Gustav Stjernberg. Newcomer Dominik Rymon also fared well in the matchup, as he generated multiple quality scoring chances on the Falcon power play. Goaltenders Cole Moore, Jacob Steinman, and Tyler Palmer each played 20 minutes in the exhibition and came up with important saves, although Palmer's time between the pipes was cut short due to being pulled for an extra attacker late on in the third period.
Due to the matchup being an exhibition, head coach Dennis Williams was able to roster more than 22 players traditionally allowed in an official NCAA game. For this weekend's series, however, the team is limited to 22 rostered players come game time.
This weekend's series is set to be highly competitive, as the Purple Eagles of Niagara also got their season underway on Saturday (Oct. 4), playing host to St. Lawrence. Niagara was victorious in that matchup, beating the Saints 5-2. Both games this weekend will be streamed on Flo hockey. Live Stats will be available to follow along on purpleeagles.com.
