BGSU Leads Big After Day One Against UTRGV

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green women's swim and dive team opened its two-day dual meet against UTRGV with a dominant performance Friday night at Cooper Pool, building a 114-33 lead heading into Saturday's finale.
Wearing blue caps to recognize World Diabetes Day, the Falcons controlled the session from the opening relay and swept the podium in eight events.
Bowling Green set the tone in the 200 yard medley relay, where the team of Emily McNicol, Corine Rieskamp and Karina Solera touched first in 1:45.27. BGSU's two additional relay squads finished second and tied for third, giving the Falcons an early boost in team scoring.
The Falcons carried that momentum onto the boards, where Natalia Mayorga posted a season-best 319.50 to win the 3 meter dive. Elise Snyder followed in second with 287.55, and Claire Werner placed third at 254.63.
In the sprint events, Solera claimed the 50 yard butterfly in 25.59, and McNicol added another highlight by achieving the NIC cut for the CSCAA in the 50 yard backstroke at 25.24. Lauren Jablonski later won the 50 yard backstroke in 29.59, and Samia Becdach delivered a personal best of 58.03 to take the 100 yard IM.
Bowling Green closed the night with a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay, as McNicol, Sierra Newton, Eva Nixon and Annie Berrow combined for a winning time of 3:43.33.
The Falcons return to Cooper Pool on Saturday at 11 a.m. to conclude the dual meet against the Vaqueros.
