Falcons Sweep Buffalo, Punch Ticket To MAC Tournament In Regular Season Finale

BGSU Lands 10 Aces For Second-Straight Match
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team clinched their spot in the MAC Tournament with a win over Buffalo on Saturday (Nov. 15). The Falcons worked for a three-set sweep, their third-straight win. Combined with results from around the conference, Bowling Green claimed their spot in the six-team field for the MAC Tournament, which the Falcons will host at the Stroh Center next weekend, beginning on Nov. 21. The Falcons conclude the regular season with a three-match winning streak, finishing 16-14 while being 10-8 within the Mid-American Conference.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 17
- Each team tallied a point to start the match, but the Falcons followed with a 6-0 run, including an ace from Avery Anders, to move out to a 7-1 lead with a Buffalo timeout.
- Buffalo recorded the first point after the timeout, but the Falcons went back to work with a 4-0 run, including two aces from Sydnie Hernandez, for a 12-2 advantage.
- After a substitution, Buffalo was able to spell a 3-0 run to cut into the lead for a 12-5 score. The Falcons were able to erase the run with a 4-0 burst of their own for a 16-5 lead and a Buffalo timeout.
- The timeout switched momentum to the side of the Bulls with Buffalo going on a 4-0 run to trim the deficit down to 16-9.
- Bowling Green was able to respond with a 4-1 stretch to build the lead back to double-digits, 20-10.
- Each team logged a point before a 4-1 stretch for Buffalo cut into the score, 22-15. The teams traded points through the end of the set from there with a 25-17 BGSU set win.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 20
- Buffalo registered the first point of the set, but the Falcons followed with a 3-0 run, including an ace from Anders for a 3-1 lead.
- The Bulls ended the early run, but a 6-1 stretch, including a 4-0 run and Jessica Andrews ace, came as BGSU's answer for a 9-3 advantage.
- Buffalo was able to tally a 4-1 stretch of their own to cut the lead down to 10-7. Each team added a point before a 3-0 BGSU run helped rebuild the lead to 15-9 at the media timeout.
- Out of the media break, the Bulls were able to put together a 3-0 run, cutting the lead down to 15-12. The Falcons landed a point, but the run for Buffalo stretched to 5-1 for a 16-14 score.
- The Falcons responded with kills from Anastasija Bozic and Amanda Otten for an 18-14 lead, prompting a Buffalo timeout.
- The Bulls tallied a point after the timeout, but a kill and then an ace from Bozic made it a 4-1 stretch and 20-15 lead for the Falcons.
- The teams traded points up until consecutive tallies for the Falcons increased their lead to 23-18 in the set with Buffalo taking their second timeout.
- After the timeout, the two teams traded points through the end of the set with BGSU claiming a 25-20 score.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 18
- Buffalo started out with a 2-0 run, but the Falcons quickly answered with a 3-0 run to move out in front in the set, 3-2.
- The back-and-forth continued with Buffalo going on a 3-0 burst to reclaim the lead at 5-3 before the Falcons worked to tie it up at 6-6.
- Bowling Green kept it going, rolling the tie into a 4-0 run, including back-to-back aces from Andrews, to take an 8-6 lead.
- Buffalo paused the run with a kill, but another 5-0 BGSU run followed, making it a 9-1 stretch and 13-7 advantage with Buffalo calling timeout.
- The Falcons added a point after the break to make it a 10-1 stretch before the next Buffalo point. The Bulls were able to create a 3-0 run for a 14-10 score.
- The two teams traded points from there up to a 17-13 score. Back-to-back points for BGSU, including another Hernandez ace, made it 19-13 with the second Buffalo timeout of the set.
- Out of the timeout, each team logged a point before a 3-0 run for Buffalo made it 21-17 with a Bowling Green timeout. After the break, the Bulls pushed their run to 4-0 with a 21-18 score.
- The Falcons not only ended the run, but closed out the set, match and regular season with a 4-0 run. An ace from Bozic sealed the win, 25-18.

- On the defensive side, the Falcons held Buffalo to an .059 hitting percentage, the fifth time this season BGSU has held an opponent under a .100 hitting mark.
- As a team, the Falcons landed 10 aces for the second straight night. The mark matches BGSU's season-high for aces in a three-set match after landing 10 against Oakland on Sept. 17.
- Jessica Andrews was a force for the Falcons on offense. Not only did she land a team-leading three aces to match her career-high, but she maintained a team-best .417 hitting percentage with eight kills.
- Sydnie Hernandez added three aces of her own, tying Andrews for the team-lead. Hernandez also tallied eight digs and three assists for BGSU.
- Avery Anders landed two of BGSU's aces, giving her 19 on the season to match her career-high after having 19 last year as well. Anders added seven digs and an assist to her stat line.
- Helen Wilford recorded a team-high four blocks for the Falcons, including three block assists. Wilford now has 117 block assists this season, tying for 10th during BGSU's Rally Scoring Era, matching Kendra Halm's 2007 campaign.
- Amanda Otten was strong again for the Falcons, posting her fourth straight double-double and team-leading 10th of the season. Otten tallied 29 assists and 12 digs, leading the Orange and Brown in both stats.
- Anastasija Bozic just missed a double-double of her own, concluding with a team-high 13 kills while logging nine digs for the Falcons.
- Isabelle Laube tallied seven digs for Bowling Green in the match, tying her career-high for digs in a match.
- Bowling Green has now won 14 straight matches against Buffalo, dating back to the 2019 season.
