HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo started out with a 5-0 run before Mayar Wol registered a layup and foul. He missed the free throw, but the Falcons snagged the rebound, turning into a Javontae Campbell layup for a four-point trip. The Bulls got hot from three, but the Falcons stayed with them. Troy Glover II got a tip-in to fall before a Wol three, a Sam Towns alley-oop slam and then a Towns layup for a 13-11 BGSU lead at the first media timeout. Javon Ruffin added a free throw after the break off a flagrant foul for a 14-11 score.
- Buffalo hit a three to tie it, beginning a back-and-forth from deep. Towns hit one for BGSU, but the Bulls again answered. Campbell located Glover for a two-handed slam, but Buffalo matched once again for a 19-19 tie at the under-12 media timeout.
- Buffalo worked for an 8-0 run out of the timeout for a 25-19 score with a Glover slam ending the run. The Bulls added two more threes to force a Bowling Green timeout that doubled as the under-8 media timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Campbell worked for a second-chance basket and then another layup for a 4-0 burst on his own, but Buffalo matched with back-to-back on their end. A three from Josiah Shackelford cut the lead down to 35-28 at the final media timeout of the first half. Wol sank two at the line to pull the Falcons within five, but the teams traded layups through the end of the half with BGSU's coming from Towns for a 39-32 halftime tally.
- Buffalo opened the second half with a three, but Campbell matched from deep. Another three from Ruffin closed the gap further, but a 9-2 run for Buffalo followed with Campbell getting a layup in the stretch. Campbell and Ruffin each worked for layups on back-to-back possessions, but a UB layup made it 53-44 at the first media timeout of the second half.
- Justin Thomas nailed a corner three out of the break followed by a Campbell layup for a 5-0 burst, but Buffalo responded with five of their own. Campbell ended the run with a layup before another Bulls three for a 61-51 score at the under-12 media break.
- Thomas moved the ball to Shackelford for a dunk to restart the scoring. Thomas later added one at the line, but Buffalo sank two. Back-to-back layups from Shackelford continued to chip away, the second coming off a Glover block, Towns rebound and Thomas outlet pass, cutting the score to 63-58 to force a Buffalo timeout.
- Campbell worked for a layup and a foul. He missed the free throw, but the Falcons hauled in the rebound, later resulting in another Campbell layup for a four-point trip. The next time down, Campbell found a cutting Thomas for a quick layup, putting the Falcons in front, 64-63, but a Buffalo three swung the score to them at the under-8 media timeout, 66-64. Buffalo added a free throw for a four-point play after the timeout for a 67-64 lead.
- Buffalo added five to their lead with a Glover tip-in ending the run. Buffalo hit a jumper, but two at the line from Glover matched. Campbell drove for a layup to cut the lead to four, but a Buffalo three made it 77-70 at the final media timeout of regulation.
- Buffalo used a 6-1 stretch out of the break to extend their lead with BGSU's point coming from Campbell at the line. Campbell later added four straight with a layup and two free throws. Buffalo tallied stretches of three free throws twice down the stretch with the trios split by a Campbell three for the 89-78 final.
