Scouting The Chippewas
Central Michigan is coming off a 100-65 win at home against Eastern Michigan, moving them to 6-15 on the season and 2-7 in the MAC. Their other conference win came at home on Jan. 10, besting Kent State 87-85. Despite having only six wins this season, CMU has a winning record at home with a 5-4 standing. In addition to their two MAC wins, they've also beat Appalachian State (Nov. 3, 82-66), Adrian (Nov. 25, 112-67) and Olivet (Nov. 17, 85-65) at home this season.
BGSU vs. Central Michigan, All-Time
Bowling Green and Central Michigan will be meeting for the 91st time in program history with the series tight. BGSU holds a slight advantage with a 46-44 record against the Chippewas. Despite that, Central Michigan has won four of the last five meetings with the BGSU win coming during the 2023-24 MAC Tournament. Last year, the teams met just once with CMU hosting, same as this year. In last year's game, Javontae Campbell led the way with 17 points, two assists, two steals and a rebound for the Falcons.Â
Glover On The Glass
Troy Glover II has hit his stride for the Falcons over the last six games. During the six-game stretch, Glover is averaging a near double-double for BGSU with 9.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He's added two of his three double-doubles this season over the last four games with 10 points and 10 rebounds against both Eastern Michigan and Buffalo. He's also led or shared in the team lead for rebounds in each of the last six contests. Additionally, Glover has tallied at least one block in seven straight games with 13 total over the seven-game span, averaging 1.9 blocks per game.Â
Campbell For The Assist
While Javontae Campbell has reached national rankings for points and steals, his assist numbers have quietly reached the top portion of the MAC as well. Campbell has led BGSU in assists in each of the last eight games as well as 14 of BGSU's 21 games this season. For the year, Campbell is averaging 5.1 assists per game, ranking fourth in the conference. As for MAC play only, Campbell has increased his average to 6.7 assists per game, second behind only Kent State's Cian Medley, averaging 7.6 assists per game.Â
The 70-Point Threshold
The Falcons' defense has played a huge role in the team's wins this year, holding opponents to 62.7 points per game and 39.1-percent from the field in games the team has won. The numbers have translated to a 70-point threshold on the defensive end. When the Falcons hold a team below 70 points, BGSU holds an 11-0 record this season, including a 32-6 mark during the Simon Era. However, when opponents eclipse the 70-point mark the Falcons are 2-8 this season.Â
National TV Selection
Bowling Green had a future game selected for national television, being the road game at Miami (OH). Originally set for Feb. 21, the game moves to Friday, Feb. 20 at 8:30 p.m. The game against the RedHawks will be Bowling Green's second game on national TV this season after hosting Akron on CBS Sports Network on Jan. 9, continuing a streak of 11 consecutive seasons that BGSU has had at least one regular season game nationally televised, dating back to 2015-16.
