SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team, currently riding a five-game winning streak, returns home for a key Missouri Valley Conference match this weekend. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons, currently in first place in the MVC, face second-place Belmont University on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 25), with first touch set for shortly after 3:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. Admission – as is the case for all regular-season home matches – is free.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• The Falcons have won five-straight games for the first time in over nine years, since BGSU began the 2017 season with five consecutive victories. BGSU has not won six games in a row since 1997. That '97 club put together an 11-game winning streak, beginning on Oct. 12 and culminating with a 1-0 win at Marquette in the second round of the NCAA Championships (Nov. 22).
• Sunday's game is a matchup of the MVC's first- and second-place teams. BGSU currently leads the league with nine points, having gone 3-1-0 in MVC play to date. Belmont has seven points, and the Bruins have a game in hand on the Falcons, with a 2-0-1 conference mark entering Sunday.
• Sunday will be Senior Day for the Falcons, with five members of the team recognized in ceremonies prior to the match. That quintet includes Mads Christensen, Enzo Gil, Michael Lindh, Saul Rios and Joshua Saavedra.
• Sunday's Belmont match will be the third consecutive league contest in which the Falcons will face the top-ranked team in the league in terms of RPI. Both Drake and Evansville were at the top of the MVC list at the time of those respective matches with BGSU. Currently (as of Thursday night), Belmont is 113th in the RPI, with Drake and Evansville at 114 and 115, respectively.
