Men’s Hoops Looks To Let The Good Times Roll Into Mardi Gras Game Against Kent State

Falcons, Flashes Set For 7 p.m. Tip Tuesday Night Inside The Stroh
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team continues their homestand Tuesday night (Feb. 17) at the Stroh Center, hosting the Kent State Golden Flashes for a 7 p.m. tip. The Falcons enter with a three-game MAC winning streak, including two at home. The game at the Stroh will be centered around Mardi Gras for the theme. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ while Todd Walker will have the radio call on WFRO Eagle 99.
Opening Tip
Bowling Green and Kent State will be meeting for the 177th time in program history with the series close at 89-87, leaning to the Falcons. As for games in the series hosted by Bowling Green, the Falcons have an edge with a 52-30 record when hosting the Golden Flashes. This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams. The first game saw the lead exchanged 22 times with 17 ties, ending in a 96-93 final favoring Kent State. Over the last four MAC games, the Falcons are holding opponents to 59 points per game and a combined field goal percentage of 38.4-percent.

Parking Changes For 2025-26
Additional Limited Mobility Parking Now Available for All Home Basketball Games
To better accommodate fans and guests with limited mobility, additional designated parking spaces will now be available for all upcoming home Men's and Women's Basketball games at the Stroh Center.
Location:
Additional parking will be located on the north side of Lot 24, beginning with the first row of spaces adjacent to the grass area and including the next two rows directly behind it.
Fan Access:
Guests utilizing these spaces should enter through the Student Entrance, located on the north side of Lot 24. From there, fans may use the service elevator to access the main arena and seating areas.
Please Note:
Limited mobility parking will remain paid parking and will be clearly marked with signage indicating the designated spaces and new location.
Standing On Defense
This season, the Falcons have leaned on their defensive prowess. In BGSU's 16 wins this season, they've held their opponent below 49-percent shooting 14 times. Additionally, Bowling Green is 11-0 this season while holding opponents below 40-percent. Of those 11 games, the Orange and Brown have kept opponents below 35-percent five times and below 30-percent twice, holding Chicago State to 29.3-percent and VMI to 20.0-percent. The Falcons have held each of their last three MAC opponents under 40-percent, winning all three games.
Home Sweet Home
The Falcons have worked to establish a home court advantage inside the Stroh Center this year, drawing three crowds of 3,000+ for the first time post-COVID. The last time came in 2019-20 when BGSU had four crowds over the 3,000-mark. Additionally, Bowling Green is averaging 2,327 fans per home game this year which is on pace to be the most in the post-COVID Era as well with the last time with a higher average being the 2019-20 season at 2,453. The Falcons have won back-to-back games inside the Stroh Center and have the most wins at home in a season (9) since the 2023-24 campaign (12).
Scouting The Golden Flashes
Since the last meeting between BGSU and Kent State, the Golden Flashes have posted an 8-3 record, falling to Central Michigan, 87-85 on Jan. 10, Miami (OH) in overtime, 107-101 on Jan. 20, and Akron, 69-52 on Jan. 30. As for wins, Kent State has had a few close ones there as well, topping Toledo by three twice, Eastern Michigan by one after two overtimes and by four in the second game. KSU is led by Delrecco Gillespie who leads the nation in rebounds per game (11.9) and double-doubles (20).
BGSU vs. Kent State, All-Time
Bowling Green and Kent State will be meeting for the 177th time in program history with the series nearly even at 89-87, leaning to BGSU despite a recent surge from Kent State in the series. In the meeting earlier this season, Javontae Campbell led the way with 28 points, nine assists, six rebounds and two steals. Josiah Shackelford added 17 points while Sam Towns tallied 13 and Mayar Wol totaled 12. The meeting had 22 lead changes and 17 ties over the course of the game with Kent State claiming a tight 96-93 final score.
Shackelford Catching Fire
Over the last five games, Josiah Shackelford has caught fire for the Falcons both from the field and on the boards. Starting the last four games, Shackelford's five-game stretch has been sparked by averaging 14.4 points per game, including leading the team in points against Ball State with 21 and tying for the team lead against Arkansas State with 13. In addition to the scoring, Shackelford has averaged 5.4 rebounds over the last five games, leading the way with eight boards against Central Michigan and seven in the win over Toledo.
Glover's Block Party
Troy Glover II has been strong in the paint defensively for the Falcons, logging at least one block in 11 of the last 12 games for Bowling Green, including eight over the last two games. Against NIU, Glover had five in the first half, the most by a Falcon since Jan. 3, 2023 when Rashaun Agee had five rejections against EMU. As for the 12-game stretch, Glover has 24 blocks to increase his season total to 39, ranking third in the MAC behind only Kent State's Delrecco Gillespie (40) and Central Michigan's Nathan Claerbaut (46).
