April 21, 2026 | Men's Basketball
Howell Ranked Eighth In Division-II For Three-Point Percentage With 44.0-Percent Mark
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of transfer guard Zach Howell. A 6-foot-5 rising redshirt senior, Howell spent the last two seasons at Division-II Drury after beginning his collegiate career at Milwaukee. Starting all 31 games for the Panthers, Howell earned All-GLVC First Team and All-Tournament recognition as well as being a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.
Howell led the scoring effort for Drury this past season, averaging a team-high 17.6 points per game while managing an efficient stat line. Howell shot 46.9-percent from the field, 44.0-percent from three and 85.3-percent from the line, all leading the Panthers while his three-point mark ranked eighth in Division-II. Additionally, Howell sank 99 three-pointers, averaging 3.19 per game, with the total ranking ninth in D-II and the average being 14th. Howell finished the season with 547 points, 147 rebounds, 60 assists, 41 steals and 14 blocks while averaging 34.0 minutes per game. On top of Howell's strong season, his postseason stretch was perhaps even more impressive. Over a three-game stretch in the GLVC Tournament, Howell averaged 19.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while leading the Panthers to a title game.
Prior to his time with Drury, Howell began his collegiate career at Milwaukee where now BGSU assistant coach Jason Newkirk served as the recruiting coordinator, spending two seasons together with the Panthers. At Milwaukee, Howell shot 43.5-percent from three as a sophomore before his season was cut short, but appeared in 29 games as a freshman in 2021-22. In high school, he set the all-time scoring record with 2,186 career points as well as the single-game scoring record with 55.
"Zach is a pure shooter that puts the work in to be consistent at his craft," said Simon. "We are excited about the many ways we can use his skillset to create offense. His range will help extend defenses. He brings a maturity and experience as well."
