May 19, 2026 | General
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Bowling Green State University has announced the promotion of Dan Meyer from Senior Associate Athletic Director to a new role as Executive Director of Development within the Division of University Advancement, effective June 1.
Since his arrival in 2014 with BGSU Athletics, Meyer has played a leadership role in strengthening philanthropic support and alumni engagement on behalf of Falcon student-athletes. As the leader of Athletics Development, he has helped cultivate donor relationships, lead capital fundraising initiatives, and advance the mission of BGSU Athletics, counting more than $51 million in cash gifts to the Athletics Department alone during his tenure.
In his new role with University Advancement, Meyer will expand his impact by leading additional institutional fundraising efforts and engagement strategies, while maintaining his Athletics fundraising responsibilities. His experience in relationship-building and development will contribute to advancing the university's strategic priorities and long-term growth during the University's upcoming comprehensive campaign.
"Dan has made an immeasurable impact on BGSU Athletics and our athletics community," said Derek van der Merwe, Vice President for Athletics Strategy and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "He has been instrumental in the department breaking records in donor and dollars raised growth in the last four year. We are excited that he will have the opportunity to continue to support our success in his new role."
Tina Hennessey, Vice President for University Advancement and President and CEO of the BGSU Foundation, Inc., added, "We are excited for Dan to bring his talents to University Advancement and continue to elevate Bowling Green State University in this expanded role."
This transition reflects BGSU's ongoing commitment to aligning talent and resources to best support institutional priorities and enhance the student experience. A national search for Meyer's replacement within the Department of Athletics is already underway.
