He provides direction and leadership to the BGSU Athletics development program, which includes fundraising efforts for all capital projects, scholarship endowment, annual giving and planned gifts as well as special events and the VarsityBG student-athlete alumni program. Meyer is a member of the senior management team of BGSU Athletics and the BGSU Foundation.
In March of 2022 Meyer took over sport oversight of men's basketball while overseeing areas with a revenue generation focus which include athletics development, ticket office and will be the departmental liaison to Falcon Sports Properties.
Meyer arrived at Bowling Green after serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Development at Washington State University for five years. During his tenure at WSU, Meyer oversaw all annual giving initiatives for the athletic department as well as the Gray W Varsity Club. He also served as a key member of the Cougar Athletic Fund’s major gifts team during the university’s $1 Billion campaign, which resulted in the greatest athletics fundraising years in school history, plus a premium seating renovation of historic Martin Stadium and a $61 million Football Operations Complex.
In Meyer’s tenure, annual giving to WSU Athletics more than doubled and the membership base reached the highest number in school history. He also established the first WSU volunteer fund drive for scholarship support in over 10 years, generating 750+ new Cougar Athletic Fund members in three years. Meyer directed the Cougar Club President’s Council, representing the leadership of 12 statewide volunteer fundraising boards and directed the CAF Advancement team, comprised of all external units within the WSU Athletic Department to promote the advancement of the Cougar Athletic Fund.
Meyer joined the WSU Athletic Department in July of 2004 as the Director of Ticket Operations. He oversaw the top four football season ticket sales seasons in school history, and record-setting revenues in men’s basketball. During his tenure in the ticket office, he oversaw a complete overhaul of the athletics ticketing software package, ushering in a new era of customer data collection and database marketing opportunities.
Dan arrived on the Palouse after a seven-year stint at Portland State University. His tenure with the Vikings had him in a variety of roles, culminating with a three-year stint as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing. In that role, he directed the marketing, promotions and advertising efforts for 14 athletic teams, and oversaw a marketing budget in excess of a half million dollars. Meyer was in charge of developing strategies and campaigns designed to promote attendance at home games and generate ticket sales. He oversaw the marketing of the highest-grossing football and men’s basketball events in Portland State’s history. Meyer was also in charge of PSU’s corporate sponsorship sales in excess of $300,000 annually. He established and managed the first student marketing internship program (the “V Team”) within athletics at Portland State. The V Team was created to focus on athletic marketing efforts on campus, specifically to students. Among their accomplishments was soliciting a school-record student turnout to the 2002 Portland State-Montana football game.
Prior to his promotion to the marketing position, Meyer spent three and a half years in charge of game day event management, as well as coordinating operational and promotional activities as the Vikings’ Director of Game Operations and Promotions. Along with overseeing a $250,000 operations budget, Dan had the honor of serving as the Tournament Director for the 2000 NCAA Women’s Basketball West Regional.
A 1994 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Meyer worked for three years as a student assistant in the Badgers’ media relations department. He then spent three more years after graduation assisting in the office as the primary contact for the nationally ranked wrestling team and the 1995 national champion men’s soccer team, as well as assisting with the nationally ranked football and men’s basketball programs. Three of his media guides were cited for being among the best in the nation by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Dan is originally from Brookfield, Wisconsin, and earned bachelor of business administration degrees in marketing and management. He was married in 2003 to the former Sara Peets, and they have two sons, Evan (2007) and Alex (2011).
