Wake Forest Tops Falcons, 1-0, Monday Night

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team held advantages in shot attempts, shots on goal and corner kicks on Monday night (Aug. 31), but Wake Forest University came away with a 1-0 victory in non-conference action at Cochrane Stadium.
Chandler Young's goal late in the first half proved to be the winner for the Demon Deacons (2-1-1). Young took a through ball from Mason Sullivan and scored with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.
The Falcons (1-3-0) had a 19-12 lead in shot attempts, but Jonah Mednard and the Deacon defense kept the clean sheet. Mednard made six saves on the night.
For the Falcons, Enzo Gil had four stops, including a second-half save on a breakaway by Joby Reid.
BG had a 14-5 lead in second-half shots, but among Mednard's four saves after halftime were a hard shot by freshman Lucas Brinkman that was tipped over the bar and a stop on a blast by freshman Luciano Perez-Cernuda.
All 10 BGSU players who started the match had at least one shot attempt on the night.
The Falcons will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 4), heading to Cincinnati for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Xavier. BG's next home match is the following Friday, Sept. 11, when DePaul comes to Cochrane.
