SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team begins the road portion of the Mid-American Conference schedule this weekend. Head coach Chris Fox and the Falcons head to Northeast Ohio for a Sunday (Sept. 20) match against the University of Akron, with first touch set for 1:00 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• BGSU was the only NCAA Division-I program in the nation to go the entire 2025 season without ever allowing more than one goal in a game. The Falcons' streak – the longest in the nation – is now at 30 games entering the Akron match.
• The Falcons will put another impressive streak on the line Sunday. BGSU is unbeaten in the last 11 road matches (6-0-5). The Falcons have not lost a true road game since a 1-0 setback at Ohio in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round on Nov. 3, 2024.
• BGSU has seven goals this season to date, and six different players have found the back of the net in 2026.
THE TEAMS / THE SERIES
• BGSU is 4-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the MAC after battling Eastern Michigan to a scoreless draw in Thursday's (Sept. 17) conference opener. Senior captain Taylor Green leads the Falcons with two goals and four points, while classmates Ella Kane and Isabella Mazzaferro have three points apiece. BG has allowed just two goals in seven matches this season, for a team goals-against average of 0.29. Junior Payton O'Malley has played in six of BG's seven matches in goal, starting five, and has 14 saves, three complete-match shutouts and a GAA of just 0.36.
• Akron is 4-4-0 this season, and the Zips are 0-1-0 in MAC play after a narrow 2-1 loss at Miami on Thursday night. Rachel Wenzel, who scored against the RedHawks, has team-best totals of four goals and eight points, while Addison Hall's five points include two goals. Sara Bower has started all eight matches in goal and has 28 saves, two clean sheets and a 1.35 GAA.
• BGSU leads Akron, 17-6-2, in the all-time series, and the Falcons are unbeaten in the last seven matches with the Zips. Last season, Gabby Lamparty's 90th-minute goal gave the Falcons a 1-1 draw with UA at Cochrane Stadium (Oct. 26, 2025). Prior to that, BGSU had won six-straight series meeting, all by shutout, including a 2-0 win at FirstEnergy Stadium two years ago (Oct. 27, 2024). The Falcons are 8-2-2 at home and 9-4-0 on the road against Akron over the years.
