SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team returns home to open the Missouri Valley Conference schedule this weekend. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons face Western Michigan University on Friday evening (Sept. 25) at Cochrane Stadium. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission – as is the case for all of BGSU's home matches – is free.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• Friday night's WMU match is part of Alumni Weekend for the men's soccer program, with a multitude of former Falcon greats expected to be back in town.
• Additionally, the 1991 team and two squads that played in 2021 will be recognized at halftime of Friday's match. The 2026 season marks the 35th anniversary of the '91 club, which went 16-2-2 and won the Mid-America Soccer Conference (MASC) regular-season and tournament titles.
• Five years ago, the Falcons advanced to the NCAA Championships twice in the same calendar year. In the spring of 2021, BGSU won the Mid-American Conference title with a 5-2-1 league record, clinching the title with an overtime win over Northern Illinois at Cochrane Stadium to advance to the NCAAs. That fall, the Falcons went 11-6-3 overall and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships before going on the road and winning a first-round game at Louisville, for the program's first national-tourney win since 1997.
• BGSU's first eight matches this season have come against opponents with a combined record of 28-16-15 (.602) as of Wednesday morning (Sept. 23).
